A message from our new County Commissioner

Hello,

I would like to introduce myself : my name is Sue Allsop and I have recently taken over from Jennifer Solomon as County Commissioner for East Yorkshire. It is a great honour and privilege to have been asked. I’m not sure what the next five years will bring, but I am looking forward to sharing Guiding with you.

I have been a warranted Guider for 29 years and am currently a Guide Guider with a thriving Company in Bridlington.

June 24th was a very memorable day for me in many ways as not only was it STOMP but it was also the official day on which I took over from Jennifer. Together, we travelled 250 miles visiting Division and District STOMP events. Our journey started at 10.00 a.m. and finished at 8.00 p.m. Phew!

Hunsley Division - Hessle District
We began in Hessle at 10.00 a.m. where the girls were busy looking for parts of a jigsaw puzzle to complete their own puzzles.

Haltemprice Division
On to Guideacres where Guides from Haltemprice Division were camping. Brownies and Rainbows were joining in celebrations later that day, which culminated in a firework display.

Holderness Division
From Guideacres we travelled to Sproatley in Holderness Division where we found Brownies making Chinese dragons and arrived just in time for their parade.

North Wolds East Division
Then on to North Worlds East Division at the Driffield Show Ground. Here we were greeted with shouts of delight and were met with the sight of girls sliding down a water shoot. Other girls were ice-skating, making crafts and playing games.

North Wolds West Division
From there we travelled to Murton Park where North Wolds West Division girls were being entertained in Viking and Saxon style with various crafts, games and guided tours around the Viking and Saxon villages.

Boothferry Division
By five o’clock we were at Tablers Wood in Boothferry Division where girls were enjoying face painting, welly throwing and various crafts. Jennifer presented Anne-Marie Holmes with her Commonwealth Award – well done Anne-Marie!

Hunsley Division - Ferriby District Zooming down the M62 we arrived at Ferriby District where there was line dancing on the bank of the Humber!

Hull North Division
Across country to the Ennerdale Centre where we found the Rainbows in fits of giggles at a magician, whilst Guides and Brownies were swimming, skating and trampolining.

By 8.00 p.m. we were back to North Wolds East Division for 8 p.m. and the camp fire. It was here in my own Division that Jennifer handed the County Standard over to me after which we all sang "This Little Guiding Light." To me, this signifies that the Guiding spirit is very much alive in East Yorkshire.

Thank you for allowing us to visit your STOMP celebrations and to be part of your STOMP just for a few minutes, and for your warm welcome. My first day as County Commissioner was indeed a day I shall never forget!
