Senior Section

A world of personal skills development, travel, fun and friendship : Any young woman aged 14 years old or over can join in the Look Wider programme. You don't have to have been involved in Guiding before, but you do need to be keen on achieving things, action, adventure and fun!

To participate in Look Wider is to be what you want to be, working with your peers or on your own to achieve personal goals and explore interests special to you. There's a vast choice of different opportunities you can follow to achieve your aims, plus lots of support.

You can take part in challenging outdoor and environmental projects, sports and activities, or join in community development at home and abroad - hard work but immensely rewarding.

You can also choose to develop your leadership skills with a programme that is flexible yet challenging and fun. You can take part in a GOLD project (Guiding Overseas Linked with Development) or be part of the leadership team of a local Rainbow, Brownie or Guide unit, helping organise activites, accompanying them on trips or to camp, and finding ways for them to help out in the community and meet all sorts of challenges.

Whatever you choose to do, you'll certainly have fun. You'll also learn about teamwork, organisation and effective communications, come to understand what citizenship really means, and acquire the confidence to take on any challenge - all invaluable additions to your CV and qualities much prized by any future employer.

As in the younger sections, the five essentials and the eight points of Guiding form the basics of Senior Section Guiding : the eight points have been renamed Octants but cover much the same areas and provide a huge range of ideas and activities. There are no set activities and members of the Senior Section can choose exactly what they want to do from the opportunities presented to them

The Five Essentials of Guiding are exactly as before:
Working together in small groups
Self-government and making their own decisions
A balanced and varied programme
Caring for the individual
A commitment to a common standard
and the Octants are :
Out of doors
International
Independent living
Sport and fit for life
Leadership
Creativity
Service in the community
Personal values

2001 - The Ranger Programme and Look Wider have undergone major updating and a new page to reflect this is under construction; meanwhile, why not pay a visit to Holderness Rangers' website?
