Vaughn Road Elementary School is now taking applications from our teachers who are interested in participating in the first BYTE Technology Camp. This is a two-day intensively structured technology staff development program designed to help our teachers become comfortable with available technology resources at VRS. BYTE Tech Camp will provide many examples of effective technology-based strategies that support and enhance our technology curriculum. It also will provide a catalyst for fundamental change in the overall teaching and learning processes we stress at VRS. Good teaching not good technology is the focus of the program. Participating teachers will learn basic technology skills while focusing on project-based activities that use the Alabama courses of study in a variety of curricula.

Participants must be willing to commit to the following:

  • Attend both training sessions (see schedule on following page.)
  • Critically examine his/her own instructional practices to determine how technology can play a role in enhancing the teaching and learning processes.
  • Implement one technology project or activity developed during the training program in the school year 2002-2003.
  • Develop three technology-connected lesson plans and be willing to share one of those with fellow educators.
  • Build a portfolio of products, templates, professional readings, and plans during the training.

The Technology Coordinator and the Administrator at VRS must be willing to commit to the following:

  • Assure that teachers will have access to the necessary supplies and materials to co projects.
  • Allow teachers to present to the faculty at least once during the current year.
  • Support the publicity efforts of the participating teachers.
