Batgirl
Name:
Barbara Gordon
Hair: Red
Eyes: Blue
Gender: Female
Motivation: Seeking justice
Age: Late Teens/Very Early 20's
The animated series adaption of Barbara, is a college student. In "Shadow of the Bat", Two Face frames her father for taking bribes. Barbara requests the help of Batman for attending the public rally for the Commisioner. Batman refuses, so she decides that he had to be there (in some form). So she made a costume and said, "Sorry, Batman. You may decide if dad goes free. So you'll be there. One way or another."
She attends the rally, but her friend and acting commisioner Gill Mason is shot at. WIth her gymnastics, she manages to foil the attempy. Robin spots her and grabs the back of her cowl and revealed that she was infact Batgirl. She eventually figured out that Gill Mason was involved in this, simulataneously does Robin. It's a perfect two-part plan--Two Face gets to run both sides of the law. She begins to modify her costume. She gets rid of the black shorts. She also changes the bat, the belt, and the color of her cowl, gloves and boots. She assembled some equipment and put it in her utility belt. She said, "So Batman can't help me--fine. In that case, we'll just see what Batgirl can do. She began as being a nuisance to the dynamic duo, but was able to trace their every movement despite their non-cooperation. She almost got them all blown up. Batman reprimanded her: "I don't know who you are, or why your doing this. But lets get one thing straight. It takes more than a costume and an attitude to do this work. You've already fowled up once. Stay out of our way, so it doesn't happen again. " She eventually gained their respect with her abilities (like when she saved Robin from drowning). Batgirl solves the caper with Gill finding out her identity, but he was put in a coma and fired. Gordon was re-instated. She and Robin flirt (they are approximately the same age.) Unlike in the comic, Batgirl does not know Batman's identity.
Batgirl also appeared in an episode entitled "Batgirl Returns." A priceless jade cat statue was stolen. Catwoman was in the museam where it was stolen and Batgirl arived. She assumed Catwoman was responsible. They talked the kind of smart-allec remarks superheros say to their supervillans. Catwoman retracted her nails and said, "Bats are just mice with wings." And with that, she raised her whip. Batgirl threw one of her batarrangs, and slashed Catwoman's whip before she could crack it. She convinced Batgirl she wasn't responsible (because of how the case was broken, by chemicals. Catwoman could have just slashed it open with her nails.) They teamed up with each other to find the thief. And they were BAD! They smashed villans, and were so good that even Robin could not stop them (Batman was out of town)! It turns out Rolland Daggat had stolen the statue, and Catwoman and Batgirl got it back. Catwoman tried to steal it, but Batgirl stopped her. Catwoman had promised Batgirl that if she found out she lying, she would give herself in. So Catwoman was almost arrested, but as the police car drove away she saw two policemen fly out of the car. "I said I'd let them take me, but I didn't say how far." She drove away in their car. Those are the only two epsiodes in which Batgirl has appeared in. Her voice is played by Melissa Gilbert (from the old "Little House on the Prarie.")
Batgirl will also play a major role in the animated movie comming out this summer.
