Costume

Barbara wears a purple rubberized almost skin-tight material. Barbara wears a purple cowl, that is black on the part that covers her face. She wears a long red wig to cover her short black hair. She wears a glittering purple jumpsuit that has her unique bat-symbol on it. Her cape is yellow and her gloves are purple with bat-fins.

*NOTE: Batgirl's costume was altered somewhat from her original.  The original had the same basic design, but had various differences in the cape, cowl, and Batgirl cycle. The mask under the eyes were pointed, which left marks in her face. The cape was made orginally out of Barbara Gordon's skirt.  It was changed so Barbara would not have to wear the same clothes every episode.

Batgirl Cycle

Barbara rode a Batgirl cycle. It is purple with a batwings, and a bow at the end. She created it out of a Yamaha . The shocks had been taken off in order to customize it and put on those batwings. The Batgirl Cycle has an automatic starter. When she punched a little button, it started and she was able to aid the dynamic duo.

The original Batgirl Cycle was much more high-tech and had no bat wings.  It had a bat for a rear view mirror. They wanted the cycle to look more feminine and added ruffles and bows.

Biography

The Barbara Gordon of the television series is probably the best known Batgirl; the one who usually leaps to mind first with the mention of the word 'Batgirl'. Played by Yvonne Craig, she came into Batman in the episode #95, "Enter Batgirl, exit Penguin", when Penguin attempts to marry her. He would've been immune from prosecution as the Commisioner's son-in-law. She also did a short pilot episode for network executives. She is Barbara Gordon, who had recently come back from four years of college to be a librarian at Gotham City Library. Killer Moth attempts a kidnapping, but Batman and Robin come into the scene.  They are tied up by the Killer Moth's "silk", but Barbara goes into a secret room and changes to Batgirl. She rescues Batman and Robin from, and aids in the capture of Killer Moth. She was educated, athletic, and intelligent.

Batgirl's fighting ability was just as goofy, funny, campy, yet as effective as Batman's and Robin's. She rarely punched (if at all).  Her best move was her kick (Yvonne Craig was a dancer), and she could kick extremely high (like a Tae Kwan Do kick)! She also used weapons, and she swung off of stuff on the sealing. She sometimes did mock judo chops.

However, she was always getting into trouble. I remember one episode where she tried to stop Catwoman, saying "Lets see what Batgirl can do by herself."  She survived the first 5 minutes of the fight, but was then knocked out.  She also was the backup, who saved Batman and Robin when they were in trouble--"the same bat time, same bat channel" situations. She always managed to aid the dynamic duo, and get herself out of these situations at the same time.

She carried many tools and equipment, and like everyone, there are too many to be listed here.  I believe she carried many of the same weapons she did in the comics, and that she also carried some kind of radio.  She also had a laser beam--the Batgirl Compact, that looked like something to powder her nose. On occassion, she also used the batphone to call Batman. She also rode a purple Batgirl Cycle, stored behind a secret wall in her apartment. When she flipped a switch, the wall turned. After she got into the costume, she got into the freight elevator that had her Batgirl Cycle in it. The elevator closed, and she rode it down to the ground. The brick wall comes out from the ally, and she is once again able to aid the dynamic duo.

Alfred is the only person who knows her identity, and she does not know Batman's.
