D&D

I heard of D&D when I was a sophomore in high school.  One of my friends invited me to a Halloween party that had a basic role-playing kind of theme, and her mother wasn't too happy because she thought D&D was satanic, or something like that.  I didn't really believe it, but as I wasn't going to do anything with it, I didn't pay too much attention.

My apartment-mates, when I moved in with them in 1997, were in a D&D campaign.  Dave was running it, and Shawna was playing.  After a year or so, I asked if I could play, and joined in.  The campaign will be going through it's final moments in a couple of weeks, and we're all going to die, but it's been a blast to play.   I've played three characters for it.  One was a high level fighter with some nifty magic items.  Greta was an 11th level gnome fighter.  She was really really cool to play, but since she was one of Dave's NPCs (non-player characters), I decided to create Jenna.  Jenna is now a 9th level mage/thief, and I really like playing her.  A while ago, when the party split, Jenna decided to follow her hero, a dwarf named Thagor, so I created Wyn, a fighter turned cleric of Boralim, the god of courage, to play with the other group.   Unfortunately, Wyn didn't die, so I had to choose between them when the party got back together.  Wyn ended up staying with the army, and Jenna joined the party again.

Since I started, I've played in a couple of D&D once offs, in addition to the main campaign.  Tim ran "Expedition to the Barrier Peaks" with a slight twist.   We were all evil humanoids who were going together to discover what we could about this new thing.  Unfortunately, evil parties don't do well together, unless it's specified at the beginning.  We ended up splitting into three different groups, which makes for crazy GMs.  Jakarta ran off to search with the hobgoblin, and no one else really liked the others.  So that fell apart fairly quickly (ie. 2 sessions).

Recently, Tim also ran "Winter Holiday" which is a holiday themed D&D kind of thing.  It was fun and silly, and only ran for one session...one very long session.  Since we didn't roll up stats (we bought them with points), we got some pretty sickening characters.  Casha Kneebreaker was a gnome fighter/illusionist, with an 18/00 strength and a 9 intelligence.  She was hard like rock and built like rock...and smart like rock.  I had a blast!

And now, I'm in an on-going dungeon crawl through "Undermountain" set in the Forgotten Realms.  It's very silly and deadly right now, mostly because three of us have realistic characters, and there are only four of us, for a setting that should be for 8 PCs.  I'm not sure how I like it so far...  Keisha Aron looks cute and dainty, even for an elf, and she's not.  It's another evil party group, but this time we are actually a group that wanders around being evil together, so we don't stab each other in the back.
