Alas... ~By

“But I’m not a human. I won’t
hurt you, I swear.”
“You got human genes, so no
thanks…and please don’t follow me again. Why didn’t I see you
following me? You were really silent.” For Keshi it was very strange
he couldn’t feel someone following him, he could feel almost any
presence when he was followed. He was somehow like a cat, fast and
alert with his senses awakened at every moment.
The fairy boy giggled knowing
the human didn’t know his other qualities. “You didn’t hear me
because I was a fairy…look.” Lal turned into a fairy and a purple
flower suddenly appeared on Keshi’s hand from where Lal came out and
then he turned back to human size. “You see? I can be both a fairy
or a human!”
“Humans don’t have wings.”
“Oh, you are right!” Then he
made his wings disappear. “Now I’m human like!”
Keshi was so surprised he
couldn’t hide it. “You’re incredible! Can you fly if you are this
big?”
“Sure!” His wings appeared one
more time and he started flying around the tall young man. “Cool
huh?”
“Very…”
“So, I still don’t qualify? It
could be cool to have two unique creatures of this world as friends.
What do you say…please pretty, pretty Keshi..?.” He pouted and
looked at Keshi with puppy eyes.
“NO! I said no already; didn’t
you hear me? I’m starting to believe you are really deaf!” 'He is so
cute!' It’s what he was really thinking, but couldn’t listen to his
heart.
“Ok…well…if you change your
mind look for me near the river. BYE!!” The cheerful silver haired
creature disappeared very disappointed with Keshi’s decision and
cried on a branch, feeling lonely again with no one who cared for
him at all. “I’m a fool…he is probably laughing of me right now. How
could I have even asked him when I’m such a hateful
creature…everyone hates me, I’m the least loved of all in this
world. Why was I even born anyway if I would have no one to share
life with? Mother made a mistake, she should let me die instead of
living.” He went inside a flower very depressed to stay there the
rest of the day and the entire night.
***
“Don’t look at me like that
Kalkin, he was crazy! I’m serious…he wears ugly clothes and acts
like a fool. What? You mean my clothes are also ugly? Well…I have
nothing else to wear…no money, my friend, no money. If I had at
least a little…I could buy myself a new blanket.” After a great
dinner he was able to cook thanks to Lal, he wrapped his old ragged
blanket around his naked body and snuggled against Kalkin. “Good
night, my old friend.”
***
Days rolled by, and Lal was
always able to find Keshi annoying him with all his talking and
cheerfulness. Keshi didn’t say much; he was reserved and
distrustful. “Would you ever stop bugging me?”
“No! Hey, where is Kalkin
today? Is he sick? Please say no, he is so cute!”
“No, he is not sick…well maybe
of you. But I think he is home sleeping, I guess.”
“He never comes to town?”
“No, it’s dangerous.”
“Where are you going?”
“Mind your own business would
ya? And stop following me everywhere, I had enough! Go away already!
You are getting on my nerves!”
Lal was hurt, and since he was
so sensible for all the rejecting he had received through life,
Keshi’s words killed him in the cruelest way. “I’m sorry…I know I’m
useless.” Lal disappeared and went pay a visit to Kalkin.
“I bet you are…got nothing
better to do than bother me.” Keshi went his way trying to convince
himself how much he dislikes Lal and why, but he knew what really
bothered him about Lal was that he really liked him.
***
“You think so Kalkin? Well…I
hope you are right ‘cause he was very mean to me. Maybe some flowers
will cheer him up a bit!” Lal instantly made all kinds of flowers
blossom around Keshi’s home to try calm his bad temper and make him
smile for a change.
***
“You say people are after me?”
“Two evil men to be exact.
Here, put this on and you’ll be protected.” An old dwarf with
mystical powers gave Keshi a special talisman and put it around his
neck. A shinny light blue crystal attached to a leather rope now
hung on Keshi’s neck with a promise of protection.
“Thanks Ganesh, I’ll be
careful.”
“Take very good care of Kalkin…he
is the one they are after.”
“I will. Thanks.” Keshi left
to his home and on the way saw some of the flowers Kalkin like
eating. He gathered many of them as a present to his dear friend.
"It’s weird to find some of these flowers with this weather.” But as
he walked closer to his house the colorful flowers surrounding it
made him run inside very upset. “Lal!! Where are you? You did that,
am I right? Lal! Lal!”
“You called me, beautiful?”
Lal appeared flying in the middle of Keshi’s home winking.
“Don’t call me beautiful! What
are those outside?”
“Lots of those.” He pointed at
the flowers he had on his hands smiling cutely.
“You think that is so funny?
Go away! How many times should I say it?” 'Why he has to be so cute?
I hate it!'
“But Kalkin liked them.”
“Of course, he eats them! Go!
Go!”
“But I wanted to cheer you up
and you only got angry.”
“You make me angry!”
“Keshi…do you really hate me?
Why?” His eyes were twinkling with tears, wanting to roll down his
cheeks.
“Because you are annoying!”
“But I care for you.”
“How can you care for someone,
you are just a creature with no soul!”
Lal, instantly hurt with
Keshi’s last words, finally let go of his tears; for the
first time he took them as true. For Lal there was no pain not
known, yet he just discovered how Keshi felt and it was breaking him
in two. “I’m sorry I exist.” With a heart broken, he disappeared
convinced of Keshi’s hatred of him, going to the river to try and
ease his pain. He stood still inside the cold water caressing his
skin still wearing tears on his eyes. “Keshi…”
“Where is he?” A thunderous
voice made Lal jump and turn around to meet two evil red eyes stuck
on him.
“What?” Lal felt a chill ran
down his spine with the sight of the tall man frightening him
completely.
“Where’s the boy?”
“What boy?” His voice was
shaky and his eyes reflected fear, it was obvious he was lying.
“You know who, your cute
little friend. The one with the treasure.”
“What are you talking about? I
have no friends.”
“Don’t play the fool! I’ve
seen you with him…now tell me where he hides?”
“You must be confused.” 'Keshi
you're in danger!'
“If this is how you want to
play, then be it.” A black ball of light came out the man’s hand
striking at Lal’s fragile body, leaving him floating in the river,
almost dead. “Tell your friend Ahriman says hello.” The warlock left
after his attack, not caring who he had to go through to get what he
wanted. He couldn’t find Keshi- he’d been looking for him long
enough, but every time he spotted the young boy he lost track. Every
time he started running and he couldn’t catch up; the boy was very
fast and lived too deep into the forest, deeper than any other
living creature. This had driven Ahriman crazy for a long time, and
was growing desperate and even careless.
“K..e…sh..i.” Lal’s eyes
closed and fainted believing that was definitely his last day of
life.
***
A beautiful morning woke the
people of Alas as well as Keshi and his dear friend Kalkin.
“Morning, boy…looks like a great day! We should take a swim on the
river…yes you too Kalkin, you need a bath!” The two left to the
river, planning a nice day out in the sun for a change, but as they
got nearer to the water, they spotted a small figure against the
river rocks that was instantly familiar to their eyes. “Lal!” Keshi
ran to him, quickly taking him out of the water, and placing him on
the ground. “Lal! Lal! Say something!” He touched Lal’s neck
searching for his pulse or some sign of life from the small haada.
“He’s alive, but badly hurt.” He prepared a medicine with special
herbs he always carried on a small leather bag, and spilled it
inside Lal’s mouth. “Swallow it Lal, come on! Swallow!” He waited a
few minutes but he didn’t react at all, making him worry a lot more.
“What can I do Kalkin? He’s going to die! Help me, please help Lal.”
Kalkin mentally asked him if he really cared for Lal, only then he
would help. “Yes I do, please I’m beggin’ here. You are the only one
that can save him…!” His plea convinced the alas to save the small
creature he had on his lap. Kalkin approached the cold and naked
body of Lal and placed his horn on top of him letting a golden light
fill his entire body. It immediately heal his internal wounds and
most of the external ones. Only a few moments later a light pink
color came back to Lal's skin, but still was unconscious. “Thank
you, Kalkin, you're the best.” Keshi stood up and jumped to get on
top of Kalkin then lifted Lal’s body using psycho-kinesis, slowly
placing him on his lap. “Home!”

Vritra was wandering through
the forest looking for the alas when he spotted a man he didn’t
expect to see alive. 'Ahriman! But how?' He was confused but was sure
it wasn't his imagination. He followed the older man, even when he
looked as young as he was, to see what he was up to. They reached
the man's hideout shortly after. “Now I know where you hide…Master.” Vitra chuckled and left
to his castle, planning a new mischievous thing
to do to his former master.
