Chapter summariesChapter Thirty: Leon's Betrayal (25 Jun 05) - Adrian and Rose tell Kit and the others that Leon took the Rainbow Wing and their ralts (who was their emergency escape plan) and teleported away. They also mention that the Rainbow Wing is used to summon Moltres, not Ho-Oh. Taylor calls his grandmother and finds out that Leon cut them off before they could reach the vulpix pack. Elsie then spots the xatu who told them the riddle. The xatu grants them their wish to be teleported to where Leon is. They find Leon battling a flareon named Kumar, who Mrs Taylor is commanding. Kumar traps Leon with Fire Spin, but Leon then tells the ralts to use Hypnosis, and everyone falls asleep. When they wake up, Leon, Ralts and Connor are all missing. Kit and the others go to Taylor's farm and talk to Bindi the blaziken about Moltres. She says that Moltres is believed to live atop a volcano. The girl who Kit met last time she went to Taylor's farm them appears and tells them that there's just been a news flash on TV saying that Mount Cinder, a dormant volcano, has frozen over. Chapter Thirty-One: Attack from above (25 Sep 05) - Kit and the others head to Mount Cinder. Along the way, they discuss what's going on, wondering if Lugia could be behind the freezing of the volcano. When they reach Mount Cinder, they see that the mountain really is covered in snow and ice. What's more, police have put barriers up there too. Kit and Taylor change to their pokémon forms and sneak under the barriers with Cam and Elsie. As they begin climbing up the mountain, they notice fire pokémon frozen in blocks of ice. A delibird, flying overhead, begins throwing balls of ice at the group. Cam is hit by one of the ice balls, and Kit tries to defend him by using Ember on the delibird. The delibird then hits Kit with an Ice Beam, causing her to collapse. She then hears Connor's voice, and sees Leon and Ralts bringing Connor up the mountain. The delibird fires an Ice Beam at Connor, but Leon defends him. The delibird then tries to attack Leon instead, but Taylor hits the bird with a Flamethrower. He points out that Leon is holding the Rainbow Wing, and they have to protect it. Elsie uses a psychic attack to throw the delibird out of the way, and the friends and foes all continue up the mountain. Team Magma's helicopter then flies into the scene, however before it can land, it is frozen still in the air by a massive beam of ice coming from the summit of the mountain. Chapter Thirty-Two: Doomed Travellers (17 Feb 08) - Everybody continues up the mountain. They reach Team Magma's helicopter and see Rose telling Numel to try to break out, while Adrian calls to Leon. Leon ignores him and keeps moving. Kit asks Leon what's at the top of the mountain, but he refuses to tell her. A beam of ice shoots down from the mountain and freezes Connor and Ralts. Another aims at Kit and her group, but before it hits, Elsie lifts the others into the air with her psychic powers, leaving herself to take the hit. The ice soon melts from around Elsie. She tells the others that she will try to carry them up the mountain psychically, using the air currents. Leon tells them that Articuno won't fall for that, finally revealing that the one behind the freezing is the titan of ice. Leon then frees Ralts and Connor using Flamethrower, and demands that Ralts break him free of Elsie's psychic hold. He threatens to attack Ralts if she doesn't co-operate, and Elsie loses her concentration and drops everyone to the ground. A snowstorm then blows over the group, and an icy bird rises from the summit, telling everyone that they're doomed. Chapter Thirty-Three: The Rainbow Wing (2 Mar 08) - Leon demands answers from Articuno, but the ice bird refuses to speak to him, and instead attacks the group of pokémon. Kit passes out, and wakes up in a chamber of ice with the others. In the centre of the chamber, Moltres is trapped in a prism of ice. The group is discussing how to free her when Leon steps forward. He orders Ralts to control Connor while he sets the Rainbow Wing on fire. It burns to ash, and he then presses the ashes against the ice encasing Moltres. The ice melts, and Moltres falls to the floor. Chapter Thirty-Four: Flames of Hope (2 Apr 08) - Moltres, lying weakly on the floor, utters the word "magma", and Kit realises she's referring to the magma of the volcano; it is believed that when Moltres is injured, she heals herself in the magma of a volcano. The group decides they need to help Moltres get to the magma by melting the ice below them. But first, they convince Ralts to set Connor free. The psychic pokémon uses Hypnosis on Leon, and with him out of the way, the others are able to use their fire attacks on the ice: Kit uses Ember, Taylor uses Flamethrower, Elsie uses Hidden Power, and Connor uses Will-O-Wisp. As Kit's attacks begin to dwindle, she puts all her passion into the flames, and ends up mastering Flamethrower. With her renewed power, the ice melts, and Moltres falls into the magma. Then, the cave begins to shake, the ice begins to melt, and the group also falls . . . but they are saved by Moltres rising up out of the depths of the volcano, telling them that the flames of hope are not extinguished. Chapter Thirty-Five: Sunset (14 Jul 08) - Moltres carries everyone to the base of the mountain. Leon holds Moltres up, which results in Articuno managing to hit Moltres with an Ice Beam. Moltres manages to fly on, and goes to Team Magma's helicopter, melting its ice casing and picking it up in her talons. Articuno hits Moltres with another Ice Beam, but the fire bird continues to carry the helicopter to safety. Articuno then manages to hit Moltres with Sheer Cold, causing her to fall to the ground. Kit and Taylor try to help her by using Flamethrower on her, but Articuno hits them with another Ice Beam. Weakened by the attack, they return to their human forms. Upon seeing this, Moltres tells them that they were chosen by Ho-Oh, and that they must find Entei and the Sun Stone. Then, Adrian and Rose appear, and tell their pokémon to attack Moltres. Moltres lets an ember from her wings fall on Numel, and he evolves into Camerupt. He then goes on a rampage, and Adrian goes to his last resort: using a master ball to catch Moltres. The legendary pokémon is instantly captured in the ball. The light all around then begins to fade, and the sun is blocked by a dark sphere. The group then realises that both the master ball and Articuno have disappeared. Chapter Thirty-Six: Twilight (13 Oct 08) - Adrian and Rose hear their boss contacting them through the helicopter's intercom, and go to listen to it. Kit follows them and hears their boss congratulating them on catching Moltres. He say they now have to catch Entei, and tells them to use Ralts to teleport back to him. Adrian tells Rose they should try to get both Entei and Moltres before going back to their boss. The agents then go to take Ralts, but she refuses to go with them. She sends them to sleep with Hypnosis, then tells Kit and the others that she'll join them, revealing that her real name is Rashmi. The group then heads to the base of the mountain to find crowds of people and police there. One man claims he saw Kit and Taylor transform from pokémon, and that he has photo evidence to prove it. A police officer asks Kit and Taylor to come back to the station to give a witness statement, and after some hesitation, they agree. Chapter Thirty-Seven: Evidence (30 Nov 08) - While Taylor and Kit are in the police waiting room waiting to be interviewed, Taylor's step-sister Narelle shows up. She asks where Mrs Taylor is, and she and Taylor go to get the police to call her mobile. Meanwhile, Kit's mother Linda arrives, worried and distressed about Kit. Cam, Elsie, Connor and Rashmi are put in a cage while Officer Jeremy from the police conducts an interview with Kit. Much to her mother's shock, Kit tells Jeremy that she was at the Rainbow Tournament that morning, and that she saw Adrian fly off in a helicopter. Jeremy shows Kit photos of Adrian and Rose and asks her if she knows them. It takes Kit a moment to recognise them out of their uniforms, but she identifies them for Jeremy. Kit then tells Jeremy that she went to the Sulfur Rainforest. When Jeremy asks her to explain how she got past the police barriers, she doesn't know what to say. Just then, another officer shows up with the photos that the witness took at Mount Cinder. When Kit sees them, she's shocked to see a photo of Taylor and herself in half human, half pokémon form. Chapter Thirty-Eight: Showing Myself to You (30 Jan 09) - Jeremy questions Kit about the photos, but she erupts in despair about how clueless she is about everything. Jeremy thinks she is experiencing shock, and tells her mother to take her home and continue the interview the next day. Kit and Linda leave the room to find Kit's father waiting there. He's quite mad about what's happened, especially when he hears that Mrs Taylor was involved. However, they agree to talk about it once they get home. They return home, and the usual group meets with Kit's parents in Mrs Taylor's apartment. Kit finally decides to tell her parents the truth, and she shows them her ability. Taylor shows them his as well. Kit's parents are extremely shocked but are relieved that she can change back again. They want to know as much about the situation as possible, so Kit tells them everything. She also reveals that she has been experiencing memories of her vulpix life. Finally, the group discusses what to do next. Mrs Taylor mentions that the Sun Stone is believed to be a meteor that fell to earth, but its location is unknown. She says they were studying Sun Shards, believed to have come from the Sun Stone, in her lab before it burnt down. Kit remembers the Team Magma boss telling Adrian and Rose to find the "ruins of the lab", so they should go there. Mrs Taylor tells them that the lab was in the Genesis Bushland. Chapter Thirty-Nine: Returning to the Pack (8 Mar 09) - The following morning, the sky is still dark, with the sun still being half-covered by the dark sphere. The group then travels to the Genesis Bushland to take Connor back to his pack. Kit feels uncomfortable meeting Robi and Violette again, because she can't help but feel that they're her parents. Connor tries to explain that Kit is the same vulpix who was captured by Katashi, and Robi asks Kit to show them her power. Kit and Taylor agree to show them, and they change into their pokémon forms. Violette starts nuzzling Kit, and Kit realises that she misses Violette as her mother. However, she is unable to understand how she could have been a vulpix all her life if she was also a human all her life. Mrs Taylor puts forward a theory that perhaps Kit blocked the memories of her vulpix life to escape the stress of her ability. Although it seems to make sense, Taylor and Mrs Taylor find the theory distressing, as being born a pokémon would mean that Taylor is not blood-related to his grandmother. |
