Chapter summariesChapter Twenty: Human-trained vs Human heart (18 Jun 04) -
Trapinch chases Kit out of the cave into the open and hits her with a
Sand-Attack. Cam, Elsie and Connor follow Kit outside to
help. When one of the trainers sees Connor, he decides to focus
his attention on him instead. He orders Trapinch to attack
Connor, but Elsie comes to the rescue, psychically throwing Trapinch
out of the way. Trapinch fights back with Faint Attack and Crunch
and knocks Elsie out. Taylor then rushes outside, and blames Kit
for Elsie's defeat. Trapinch then goes to use a Dig attack on
Connor, but Taylor takes the attack for him. However, Trapinch
then hits Connor with a Faint Attack. His trainer throws a
pokéball and catches Connor. Kit picks up the
pokéball and tries to run, but then Croconaw hits her with a
Water Gun and she falls to the ground. The other trainer throws a
pokéball and she is captured. Chapter Twenty-One: Memories
(7 Jul 04) - Kit is released from her pokéball by Katashi, her
new "trainer". The other trainer, William, releases Connor.
Connor tries to talk to Kit, but she ignores him, instead listening to
Katashi as he tries to teach her to use an Ember attack. Kit
begins to learn to breathe fire. Later on, Kit and Connor are
released for dinner, with the rest of Katashi and William's
pokémon. Katashi's manectric tells Kit about the
tournament that Katashi and William are going to enter. Connor
tells the pokémon that he and Kit won't be able to compete in
the tournament. He tells them that Kit is really a human.
The pokémon all laugh at this, and not even Kit herself takes
Connor seriously. Connor realises that Kit has lost her
memory. He tries to speak to her about things she should
remember, but nothing works. Finally he mentions Cam, and Kit
realises with a shock that she can't remember who Cam is. Connor
asks her to tell him what the last thing she remembers is. She
strains her memory, and remembers seeing a bird in the sky, and the
bird dropping something from her wing. Suddenly Kit's memories
come rushing back, but she remembers two different stories: being a
human, and being a vulpix. Chapter Twenty-Two: Pay Day
(21 Aug 04) - Tom appears, and Kit realises she's in the National
Park. Kit asks Tom to distract Katashi and William so that she
and Connor can escape. Tom tries to distract the trainers by
using Pay Day. It works for a moment, but then Croconaw alerts
Katashi to the fact that the vulpixes are escaping. Katashi and
William try to recall their vulpixes. Croconaw fires a Water Gun
at Kit, but Kit dodges and it hits Connor. William is then able
to return Connor to his pokéball. Kit takes the chance to
run into the bush. Although Katashi chases after her, she manages
to get away. She begins to wander through the bush, wondering how
she can change back into a human. She then stumbles across the
cave where the sun and moon paintings are. She remembers Ho-Oh,
and thinks that the great bird must still be alive. She asks
Ho-Oh to change her back into a human, and it works. Chapter Twenty-Three: Affirmation and Preparation (29 Sep 04) - When the camp instructor spots Kit, he makes her go with him back to the rangers' cabin to call her parents to come and pick her up. Kit lies, telling him her name is Kit Taylor and giving Mrs Taylor's address so that he parents don't have to find out. Mrs Taylor then comes and gets Kit. When Kit mentions that Katashi and William were training for the Rainbow Tournament, Mrs Taylor realises that the "coloured feather" prize is actually the Rainbow Wing, an item used to summon Ho-Oh. She decides that Kit and Taylor must enter the tournament to win the Rainbow Wing and also get Connor back from William while they're there. Kit agrees to act as the trainer for the tournament, with Taylor entering as her pokémon. However, they need three pokémon to enter with, so Elsie joins them, and despite Kit not wanting to put him in danger, Cam also agrees to join. Kit begins to study pokémon battles by reading books and playing battle simulation games. Chapter Twenty-Four: Round One,
Fake Tears (13 Nov 04) - The Rainbow Tournament begins.
Kit's first opponent is a girl called Fleur, who sends out a taillow
against Taylor. Taylor and Kit start arguing because Taylor uses
Agility when Kit wants him to attack. When Taylor uses
Flamethrower, Taillow is burned, however, his Guts ability means that
it only makes him stronger. Taylor manages to wear Taillow down
with Flamethrowers, but then Taillow uses Endeavour, causing Taylor to
become as weak as him. Taylor then knocks Taillow out, but since
he's been weakened, Elsie takes his place. Fleur sends out Plusle
next. She paralyses Elsie with Thunder Wave, but Elsie's
Synchronise ability means that Plusle gets paralysed too. Elsie
wants to use Calm Mind, but Kit orders her to use Psychic instead, and
Elsie complies. Plusle then uses Fake Tears and Charge, causing
her Spark attack to become super-powerful. However, when Plusle
goes to use Spark again, her paralysis kicks in and she's unable to
attack. Elsie manages to beat her with another Psychic
attack. Fleur's last pokémon is Bulbasaur, who uses Leech
Seed against Elsie. Elsie hits back with a super-effective
Psychic attack, but then Bulbasaur's Vine Whip deals her a lot of
damage. Elsie's paralysis prevents her from attacking, and Leech
Seed's sapping causes her to faint. Taylor goes back into the
battle, and Bulbasaur's Vine Whip hurts him, but he counter-attacks
with Flamethrower and manages to defeat Bulbasaur. Chapter Twenty-Five: Round Two,
Sandstorm (11 Dec 04) - Kit goes into battle against William,
who sends out Bellsprout. Taylor enters the battle, using a
Flamethrower to cause a lot of damage to Bellsprout, but Bellsprout
then uses Sleep Powder and Taylor falls asleep. While Kit tries
to wake Taylor up, Bellsprout uses Ingrain and then Acid. Kit
switches Taylor for Elsie. After some contemplation, Kit lets
Elsie use Calm Mind. Bellsprout uses Sleep Powder, but her attack
misses. Elsie then uses Psychic to knock Bellsprout out.
Kit then makes a deal with William; whoever wins gets to keep one of
the loser's pokémon. William then sends out Vibrava, who
starts taunting Elsie about not being able to handle the power of
evolution. He then uses Sandstorm, which stays on the field for
several turns, causing Elsie damage each turn. Elsie uses
Psychic, and Vibrava then uses Dig. Although Kit's first thought
is to use Psychic, upon realising that it won't hit while Vibrava is
underground, she tells Elsie to use Calm Mind instead. Vibrava
emerges from underground and hits Elsie, and she uses Psychic in
return. Vibrava uses Faint Attack, and Elsie uses Psychic
again. By this point, Elsie is getting very weak, and Cam
suggests that he should take over, but Elsie says she has a move that
can help her, she just has to wait for the sandstorm to stop blocking
the sun. Vibrava uses Faint Attack again, and Cam says he really
should go in, but Elsie won't let him, saying that Kit doesn't want him
to get hurt. Kit realises that Elsie is fighting for all of them,
and begins to realise what a valuable friend Elsie is. Upon
realising this, she decides to switch Elsie for Cam to protect
Elsie. However, Vibrava then begins taunting Elsie again, and Kit
gets so mad that she orders Elsie to stay in and use Psychic. The
sandstorm then fades, and Vibrava uses Dragonbreath. Elsie
narrowly survives the attack and uses Morning Sun to restore her
health. Vibrava uses Faint Attack, but with her renewed energy,
Elsie easily survives it to hit back with Psychic and knock him
out. William sends out his final pokémon, Connor.
Elsie tells him that he needs to pretend to faint, and he does
so. After a thirty-second wait to ensure that Connor is defeated,
Kit is declared the winner. After the battle, Kit confronts
William and takes Connor's pokéball from him. Chapter Twenty-Six: Round Three,
Double-Edge (25 Dec 04) - Kit battles against Nasim, who sends
out Flareon against Taylor. Taylor uses Quick Attack, but then
Flareon uses Attract and Taylor becomes immobilised with infatuation,
unable to attack her on the next turn. Flareon uses Double Team,
and when Taylor next tries to attack, he misses her. Flareon uses
Double-Edge, causing a lot of damage to Taylor but also hurting
herself. Taylor is again blinded by his attraction, and Flareon
uses Double-Edge again. Taylor finally manages to hit Flareon,
but she uses Double-Edge again, weakening him greatly. After
another hit from Taylor's Quick Attack, Flareon is recalled by
Nasim. He sends out Heracross to replace her. Taylor uses
Flamethrower, but then Heracross uses Earthquake, causing serious
damage. Taylor manages to use Ember, and Heracross then uses
Brick Break, which hurts Taylor badly and makes him pass out.
Elsie goes into battle, and uses Calm Mind. Heracross then uses
Megahorn, and Elsie fights back with Psychic. Elsie and Heracross
continue to use Psychic and Megahorn, until Nasim decides he should
recall Heracross. He sends out Linoone, whose Extremespeed knocks
Elsie out. Kit ponders over whether it's right to send Cam into
battle or not, but Cam says he should try his best for Taylor and
Elsie, so Kit lets him battle. Linoone uses Extremespeed again,
and Cam uses Scratch. When his weak attack has almost no effect,
the crowd laughs, which angers Kit. Linoone then uses
Thunderbolt, which activates Cam's Colour Change ability. His
scales turn yellow, and he starts laughing and talking a lot. Kit
asks him what other attacks he knows, and he says he doesn't know
any. However, she then mentions the last time his Colour Change
acitvated against Leon, and he remembers that he knows Fury
Swipes. He uses the attack against Linoone, scratching at her
repeatedly and refusing to stop. Eventually, Linoone
faints. Nasim decides not to send Flareon or Heracross back into
battle, instead admitting defeat to Kit. Kit then meets up with
Mrs Taylor while they wait for the pokémon to be healed.
They look at the battle roster and discover that their next opponent is
Adrian. But then they're met with more bad news, as the nurse
tells them that Taylor's leg is broken and he's not allowed to continue
battling in the tournament. Chapter Twenty-Seven: Round Four, Howl (2 Mar 05) - Kit and Taylor manage to convince the officials to let Taylor take over Kit's role as trainer. Kit then turns into a vulpix to take Taylor's place in the battle team. They go up against Adrian, who sends out Poochyena against Elsie. Knowing Elsie's psychic attacks won't affect Poochyena, Taylor switches Elsie for Kit. Poochyena tackles Kit on the switch, and Kit retaliates with Ember, but Poochyena then uses Howl and causes Kit to retreat and Cam to take her place. Poochyena uses Howl, and Cam uses Lick in an attempt to paralyse her, but it doesn't work. She uses Headbutt against him, and he then tries Lick again and manages to paraylse her. They then exchange several blows until Cam's Fury Swipes manages to take her down. Adrian sends out Numel next, and Cam tries Lick again, but fails to paralyse him. He half-heartedly uses Take Down, and Cam uses another Lick but still fails to paralyse Numel. Numel then uses Focus Energy and suddenly he's ready to battle hard. Cam uses Bind, but then Numel uses Ember and knocks Cam out. Elsie goes into battle next, starting out with Calm Mind. Numel hits her with Take Down, but after a blast of her Psychic, he loses his focus. This annoys Leon, who marches onto hte field and takes his place. Elsie uses another Calm Mind, and Leon hits her with Flamethrower. She fights back with Psychic but after two hits from Leon's Slash, she's knocked out. It's then up to Kit. Leon uses Flamethrower against her, but all it does is charge up her own fire power due to her Flash Fire ability. Taylor tells Kit to use Quick Attack, but she's eager to use her boosted fire power and uses Ember instead, which does little damage against the charmeleon. He hits her with Tail Whip, and realising she should have listened to Taylor, she fights back with a Quick Attack, butt Leon then uses Slash and drains a lot of her energy. She tries another Quick Attack but fails to deal any damage, and with one more Slash, Leon knocks her out. Chapter Twenty-Eight: Final Round, Astonish (9 Apr 05) - Kit wakes up in the temporary pokémon centre with Mrs Taylor. Mrs Taylor tries to tell her that she fought bravely, but Kit is still annoyed at herself for losing. They then go to watch Adrian's battle in the grand final. He's down to Leon versus the opponent's sableye. Sableye uses Shadow Ball, and Leon fights back with an Ember. Sableye's Astonish then makes Leon flinch and he gets in another Shadow Ball. Leon uses Ember again, but Sableye uses Detect to negate the attack. Leon then uses Flamethrower and knocks Sableye out. Adrian is declared the winner, and Kit runs to the tournament officials to tell them to disqualify Adrian as he's part of Team Magma. The officials don't believe her, and Adrian goes to the prize ceremony and is given the Rainbow Wing. He then reveals himself as a Team Magma member, and escapes by helicopter. Kit and the others get into Mrs Taylor's car and chase the helicopter, but soon it's out of sight. Chapter Twenty-Nine: Riddles (22 May 05) - On the radio, there's a news announcement saying Team Magma landed in the Sulfur Rainforest. As Kit and the others head there, they discuss Team Magma's motives and realise they don't really know much about what Team Magma is up to. When they reach the rainforest, Kit and Taylor change into their pokémon forms so they can go in with Cam and Elsie without being warned off by the police. Mrs Taylor takes Connor back to the vulpix pack, and Kit belatedly realises that Mrs Taylor can understand pokémon speech. She shows Kit the special hearing aid she invented that translates pokémon speech. Kit and the others then head into the rainforest. They find Team Magma's helicopter, and sitting on top of it is a xatu. When Kit asks the xatu where Team Magma went, it tells her a riddle. Kit solves the riddle and it leads them to a natu, who tells another riddle, which in turn leads them to another natu who tells a riddle, and finally they come to a cave. As they enter the cave they hear Adrian and Rose's voices, and notice that the walls and roof are covered in ice. They continue down the cave until they find Team Magma. |
