A Closer look at Shouju Anime An interesting aspect of anime known as "Girl Anime" is examined  I'm putting up this page on Shoujo anime to tell you about what it is all about. In anime, there are two main types. "Shoujo" is for girls, and "Shounen" is for boys. In shoujo, you will find Magical Girl Fantasy like things, and the girl is the hero. There are Bishounen (literally translated as pretty boy) guys, and they usually transform. There is an abundance of kawaii (cute) objects, and SD (super deformed) mode. Titles in this category are: Sailor Moon, Magic Knights Rayearth, Please Save my Earth. The Playstation game "Rhapsody: A Musical Adventure" is a great example of this type of anime.

boys anime. This type has a lot more action and adventure, and not
so much romance, as found in Shouju anime.
Titles in this category are DragonBall Z, Gundam (any Gundam series), Akira, Macross. This type of generally appeals to young boys and there are many fights, and action-oriented elements. Some series like Tenchi Muyo, and Sakura Wars are kind of an inbetween anime, that can appeal to both audiences.
Magic Knights Rayearth - A popular shoujo anime in Japan. Created by CLAMP, this anime has a lot of cool things in it. Different elements like friendship, love, action, adventure are thrown into it, giving it a very RPG feel. The villains are cool too. There's even some mecha in too! It's about three girls (8th grade) name Hikaru, Fuu and Umi. They are complete strangers visiting the Tokyo tower on a school field trip when the three of them get sucked into a magical world called Cephiro. There they meet many amazing people and their epic adventure begins! I have the first 2 volumes of the manga and I highly recommend it to anyone that wants a solid adventure RPG. Look on
