Our clan got it's start with two gerbils in October of 2000 (yep, last year!): a DTW female my daughter wanted to name Ballerina Tina, and a spotted lilac my oldest son named Kibble. Right from the start Kibble was one of the sweetest little guys ever, and he loved to be picked up and petted. After a brief time in a split cage Tina and Kibble got along just fine. Although Tina was always ready to make sure Kibble knew who was boss! But they got along well, and I never had any problems with fights with them. Kibble and Tina had two litters before I split them up, one of five and one of six. They had some beautiful pied pups. Of those two litters, we still have seven. We found homes for two pair of the females, and Kibble and Tina are both living with one of their children. I also acquired another pair in January, a Yellow Fox I called Peaches and a Nutmeg I call Cocoa, in the hopes of possibly starting a pied recessive "e" line (colors like Dark-Eyed Honey, Yellow Fox, Nutmeg, Red Fox, Polar Fox, Silver Nutmeg, Apricot and Red-eyed Silver Nutmeg). Unfortunately, I decided to separte this pair after their first litter. There were 6 born. One of them was still born and another died within a day or two. Of the four who lived, the mother chewed one little guys foot off, and the tails of two. I decided rather than risk the health of any gerbils, to simply separate them. I suspect that they may have been too closely related. Not something I will ever try again. :( But that is how our clan got it's start. Below are links to each of the pairs I consider to be permanent members of our clan. Each pair has a page with pictures and a little info on them (mostly pictures though! lol). I hope you enjoy them. |
