- by Pat Clark Spending holidays at the farm with Joan - Auntie Thelma and Uncle Harry would take us to the CNE. Auntie Thelma taught us how to do copper tooling. Joan and I loved Uncle Harry best, because Auntie Thelma would give us a blouse for Christmas, and Uncle Harry would give us a great big chocolate bar. I remember Christmas at Nannie and Pop’s on Queen Street. It was great when all the cousins were there. I remember, I used to think my cousin Doug was so cute. I heard a story, told time and again over the years, about one Christmas when Doug and Glenn were quite young. I guess Auntie Etta and Uncle Ken had a friend over on Christmas Eve and he wasn’t able to negotiate his way home, so he slept on their couch. Sometime during the night the two boys came downstairs and opened all the gifts. No one knew what was for whom in the morning. When the friend was asked why he hadn’t stopped them, he said, “They were having so much fun!” I’m not sure if they remained friends with him after that. I also remember Douglas getting in trouble for shaving my arms. Come to think of it, maybe my arms are a little hairier than they should be.. Thanks a lot Doug!! Those are a few of the things I remember as we were growing up, but
one thing will always stand out in my mind - when Joan and Doug came for
my dad’s funeral. That meant a lot.
