Equipment & Resources

Brownie Guides are usually aged between seven and ten, although some Brownies stay in the unit until they are a little bit older. Any girl over the age of seven can become a Brownie Guide as long as she is able to understand, and wants to make, the Brownie Guide Promise.

Brownies belong to a unit and work in small groups called Sixes. This gives each girl a group of ready-made friends to take care of her. It also makes her feel that she belongs to something special.

What do Brownie Guides do?

Brownie Guides have fun! Their meetings are full of activities and include suggestions from the Brownies themselves. There are opportunities for them to learn new and practical skills and by taking part in games they discover how to be part of a team. Brownies can earn badges for doing their best to meet special Challenges. They can also work for a wide range of interest badges.

As well as the weekly meeting during term time, there may also be special activities and events at the weekend or during school holidays. The highlight of the year is often the Brownie holiday or camp.

Many of the activities aim to develop each girl at a pace which suits her and are based on the Eight Point. The Eight Point Programme for Brownie Guides is:

  • Brownies are wide awake.
  • Brownies keep healthy.
  • Brownies do their best.
  • Brownies have fun out-of-doors.
  • Brownies help at home.
  • Brownies make things.
  • Brownies lend a hand.
  • Brownies are friendly.
The Brownie Guide Promise

I promise that I will do my best:
To love my God,
To serve the Queen and my country,
To help other people
and to keep the Brownie Guide Law.

The Brownie Guide Law

A Brownie Guide thinks of others before herself and does a Good Turn every day.

The Brownie Guide Motto

Lend A Hand.

Uniform

Each Brownie Guide chooses the uniform she wants to wear from the range of options available in the Brownie Guide uniform collection: it is up to each girl to decide which items she likes. This choice allows Brownie Guides to be themselves but also makes them feel part of the unit.
