This new resource is aimed to make it easy to obtain quick and essential information about Professor Giuliano Amato, the former Italian Prime Minister.
Both the Italian part and the English one provide, besides biographical and bibliographical information, links to a selection of on-line resources: speeches, statements and articles by Giuliano Amato as well as media interviews and reports. Some of them are in English. Which makes it possible for a wide audience from all over the world to get an idea of Giuliano Amato's political views.
I hope that the English part of this site may also be helpful to those students whose goal is to get a better understanding of Italian Government's policies as well as to discover what makes Amato one of Italy's most respected politicians and intellectuals.

My name is Samuele Roberto Piccoli, although I am generally known as Roberto Piccoli.

I was born on November 13, 1950. My birthplace, by pure chance, is Maddalena Island--one of the most beautiful of the Mediterranean See, off the northeast coast of Sardinia--but my origins are elsewhere, since my mother was born in Philadelphia, USA, though of Ligurian origin (north-western Italy), and my father is from Treviso (north-eastern Italy).

When I was one-year-old my family moved to Rome, where I grew up and attended schools until graduation. In 1972, after studying political science for two years at the University of Rome (School of Political Science) I moved to Treviso--that is the town where, since then, I have lived and worked--and attended the University of Venice (Department of Philosophy). In 1975 I received a B.A. degree in Philosophy.

In 1980, during the summer, I studied English at the
San Francisco State University.

I am a school teacher (Italian Literature and History) at Istituto Luzzatti, Treviso, a High School where I have taught since 1983; since January 2000 I have also maintained its Web site.

On March 21, 1998 I created Tribute to Ralph Waldo Emerson--a Web site dedicated to the great American essayist and poet (1803-1882) who was a leader of the transcendental movement--which I consider my chief contribution to the World Wide Web.

I am chair of Centro Walter Tobagi, a research center for philosophical, ethical and political studies, and since 1997 I have also maintained its Web site, which offers pages on various topics, such as spirituality, books, multimedia, and bioethics (Bioetica & Bioetiche is one of the most visited in Italian language)
