Season III saw many changes which improved the League, and through the Season II survey from the players in the League, it was established that the changes were over due.

One of the many ways that I wanted people to join the League was via search engines.  I listed the website with about 40 different search engine companies, but none of them listed the website due to the name of the League.  "Fantasy Football League", (as the League was known up until the last few weeks of Season II), was seen as a too broader title for the League and I realised that the League needed a proper name.  "Global Football League", was selected because the League has players from all over the world, and because the format of the League would have a global feel, due to the geographical nature of the divisions.

With the introduction of an extra 30 players for Season III, the League structure needed to be altered to accommodate the extra players.  If the divisions became too big, then players would be bored if they weren't doing well.  If there were too many divisions, then the divisions would lose their value due to there being to many for players to have to climb to get valued results.

It was decided that there would be 2 League's within the GFL.  One League for English players, and one League for the rest of the world.  Each League would have the same number of players, and there would be 4 divisions of 10 players in each League.  At the end of the Season there would be playoffs as with Season II, (but now seeded playoffs), but the winners of each division would now have 1 more match to play.  There winners of their respective divisions would face each other in the "Inter League Finals", (1st Div winner vs 1st Div winner, etc), and the winners of these matches would then qualify for the Champions League.

Another aspect of the League sections of the GFL that changed greatly for Season III, is the nature of gaining points.  The matches in the League became head to head, and players were paired together in the start of season fixture listing, and when the matches were played the played who gained the most points was awarded 3 points, and if there was a draw both players were awarded 1 point.

The points for predictions on matches changed too, as many players felt that this just added confusion to the League play.  In Season II bonus points were awarded if the player predicted the correct number of total goals from the 3 matches.  This lead to some situations where some players were awards the maximum of 5 points, even though all 3 results they predicted were wrong.  For Season III there were 2 award for each correct score, and 3 points for each correct result.  Meaning that the perfect score has risen from 20 to 21.

The Champions League proved very successful in Season II, and in Season III the format will change to allow players to compete for longer in the competition.  There are 7 weeks in the season that are for European play, and I felt that allowing for more than this would be unfair on those that did not qualify for Europe.  So groups were introduced to the Champions League, and each of the 2 rounds would be round robin with groups of 4 players in each.  In the 1st round 2 players from each group would advance to the last 8, and in the 2nd round the winners of each group would qualify for the Final, (and the runners-up would qualify for the Champions League Season IV with the finalists).

To allow those who have done well in the League to be rewarded to introduction of the UEFA was made for Season III.  The competition was a knockout one, and all legs were 2 legged, with the exception of the Final.  The qualifying for the UEFA Cup was based purely on League ranking from the previous Season, (ie. top players that were not in the Champions League qualified).

An area of the GFL that changed greatly was the qualifying for the Champions League.  In Season II players could qualify by being a top scorer for 1 week, or overall, or by doing well in any of the competitions on offer.  For Season III it was decided that players would need to be in the top 4 for each competition, and for the League they would need to be in the Final for their division, (for the Premiership), or win the Inter League Final, (for the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Divisions).

During the season it was decided that a new webpage would provide jokes, stories and even downloads.  During Season I there was a downloads webpage, and the response was very positive.  This again was the case for Season III, and with the webpage being renewed everyweek players had yet another reason to visit the website.

An area of the League that will always remain will be the player input into how the League develops and changes.  I feel that this is what has kept player loyalty, as people enjoy being listened to when they have good ideas.  An example of this was the "English Prediction".

The "English Prediction" was an expanded version of the "Premiership Prediction", and became a part of the GFL website during Season III.  The Premiership Prediction started during the off season leading up to Season III, and was used for qualifying places.  The competition proved so popular, that it is now a parallel competition next to the GFL.  With 90 players in the competition the future is looking bright...
