The season started with a new look, and there was new hope for those that just missed out on success in Season III.  The League's format was changed to a new format, that would allow players who were in good form to play further into the competition.

Rather than players working their way up through the divisions, to one day complete in the top flight, it was decided that players would now form teams of five players, and they would then attempt to work together to overcome other sides.

The Cup competition would be held again, and there were the four rounds in the knockout event.  The Champions League and UEFA Cup were not used, but this can be reviewed in future competitions.

With the GFL now lasting 23 weeks the competition was a good length, with players stating that any longer than 30 weeks could lead to boredom.  The matches once again were from the English Premiership, and derby's between Rangers and Celtic. But there were also matches from the Nationwide League, Champions League and World Cup Qualifiers.

The rules for Season IV remained basically the same as Season III as players enjoyed being awarded more points for predicting the correct score for each match.  Players scores were combined and results gained from the teams total score.

As with Season III the GFL website boasted a links page that provided links to Football webpages of varying shapes and sizes.  Players gave positive feedback for this aspect of the website, and there was no trouble in deciding for it to remain.  There was also no hesitation in bringing back the "Offside" webpage, that players enjoyed.  So players continued to have a chance to view great stories and jokes.

With the Global Football League into it's forth season the future looked better than ever, and the basis of the League remained the same as it had from the start, with players having a say on what they wanted from the League and just as importantly...the League being free.
