2002 One for the thumb Tards secure 5th championship ring after trailing in '02 Cup Finals
Were it not for a Michael Skramstad decision to pitch to Barry Bonds with 2 outs and a 1 run lead in the 9th inning of Game 1, the Tards might have been looking at a 3 games to none deficit when Game 4 rolled around; in which situation Burnett may never have gotten the call that led to a 5-hit shutout, tying the series. Bonds' 2-run, game-winning homer in Game 1 was the lone bright spot for Cris Avery through the first 3 games, but fortunes eventually changed in dramatic fashion, as the Tards outscored the Skramalonians 26-5 over the final 3 games to secure the title.
While Bonds' bat was relatively quiet (.238, 3 HRs), RF Todd Hollandsworth lit it up with 8 RBIs while going 9-for-18 in the series.
