Project Description
Godfrey's Children (originally called Everyone's
Child) was formed in 1998 as a project to assist children infected and affected by
HIV/AIDS in Tanzania. The organization is now called Godfrey's Children after the
original founder, the late Dr. Godfrey Msemwa of Tanzania.
It is hoped
that through our partnering organizations that the activities of the organization will
expand to other parts of the country and the continent.
Godfrey's Children is an official project under the International Federation of
Medical Students Association as of August 2000. The project is represented in IFMSA by the
Tanzania Medical Students' Association (TAMSA) through the TAMSA President and organizing
body. Other organizations in collaboration include:
- Save
Africa From AIDS (SAFA) Campaign - An organization within the Africana Studies
Department, University of Albany in New York assisting in Godfrey's Children's education
program.
- Africa Bridge - A
non-profit organization in the United States. Africa Bridge and Godfrey's Children
will conduct an AIDS forum in Mbeya in November 2002.
- People to People
- An Ethiopian AIDS organization
- Foundation for
Sustainable Development - A non-profit organization providing internship opportunities
with Godfrey's Children in Tanzania.
- Grandview Heights Elementary School- A school in British
Columbia, Canada who are involved in our Pen Pal program. Children learn about Tanzania in
the classroom and exchange art and supplies with children in Idweli, Tanzania.
