Skyline: Lightning storm.Plot: Frederick is in Seattle for the National Spelling Bee Finals, and Frasier is putting his son through many "training methods". Frasier wants Frederick to win because many years ago, Niles got to the finals and walked off the stage as the judge said the last word. At the Bee, Frederick ends up in the semi-finals with another contestant, Warren Clayton. After 41 words, Frederick beats Warren to take the trophy. Naturally the Cranes are delighted and hold a celebration back home to celebrate. Unfortunately, the judge, Dr Gaston, arrives to say that Frederick has been accused of cheating. Warren's parents claim Frasier was mouthing the letters to Frederick! Frederick has to give the trophy to Warren, and decides not to go to the finalists banquet that evening. Niles later tells him it doesn't matter about trophies - and that the reason he walked off stage all those years ago was because he realised that as long as he could spell any word, trophies didn't matter. He could spell and that was all that mattered. Frederick decides to go to the banquet. At the banquet, Frasier notices Frederick has gone. A security guard drags Frederick and Warren into the room - they were fighting because Warren called Frasier a cheater and Frederick was defending his father. But can the adults get through the evening without fighting, or will another spelling competition be the only way to solve things? Subtitles: 41 Words Later; Actually, The Letter 'Y' Isn't That Friendly. Where Everybody Knows Your Name: Frederick makes a reappearance, and there's a few mentions of Lilith. She couldn't make it because, at the regional finals, she earned a "long overdue suspension." Trivia: Daphne has very little to do in this episode, and Roz comes to the apartment again for Freddie's celebration. She'd asked Frasier to give him a flattened penny she once found that bought her good luck, but Frasier didn't and she was a bit upset. Daphne mentions her dad and how he was down the pub all the time as well. Plus Eddie makes a reappearance! He's the other "contestant" on the mock spelling bee Frasier sets up during Frederick's "training", and his word is "woof." Naturally. |
