Skyline: A shooting star passes over the skyline.Plot: Bruce Academy, 1964 - 12 year old Frasier and 7 year old Niles sneak into their science lab at school. They're staging a backyard production of Hamlet and want to use the skull in the lab for their play. As they climb up and get it, young Niles drops it on Frasier's head, causing the skull's jaw to crack. The present day - Frasier and Niles learn that their childhood home is for sale. The Crane family rented the house for 10 years when Frasier and Niles were kids and the brothers decide to buy it to turn into a bed and breakfast. When they, and Martin, go to the house, they discover it's too small for a bed and breakfast, but they remember a memory box they buried not long before they had to leave the house. The brothers ask the landlord, Mr Lasskoff, if they can take out one of the floorboards to get their box but he says no. That night Frasier and Niles sneak into the house and lift up the floorboard. They find the memory box - and a skull. Forgetting it's the one they "borrowed" in 1964, Frasier and Niles think that Mr Lasskoff has murdered his wife (she disappeared about the same time the Cranes left). They come up with wilder and wilder theories as to what happened, and it isn't until the police arrive that they open the memory box, see the programme for the Hamlet production and realise what the skull was..... Meanwhile Alice's hamster has died, and Roz doesn't know how to tell her. When she's out buying a new one, Martin accidentally tells Alice it died, and tells her about "hamster heaven" and how great it is there. Alice accepts that, and when Roz returns she realises that Alice knows what happened and that she knows she shouldn't be sad. Subtitles: Bryce Academy, 1964, About 3pm; If These Floors Could Talk. Trivia: Ashley Thomas returns as Alice, and James Oliver makes a reappearance as the waiter. This is the third time Young Frasier and Niles have appeared, and the third set of actors to play them (See Ep 105 "Where Every Bloke Knows Your Name" and Ep 143 "Momma Mia" for the other appearances). There's another mention of the Crane Boys Mysteries (see Ep 183 "Daphne Returns") and mentions of Hester Crane, Roz's dog Ariel (who ate the hamster), Roz's dad and Mrs Moon, just in case we'd forgotten she was still in Seattle. |
