---|
Frasier is an American situation comedy set in Seattle, Washington State. A spin-off from bar room comedy Cheers, it focuses on the life of Dr Frasier Crane, a psychiatrist who moves back to his hometown of Seattle to take on a job as a radio shrink on KACL 780AM with his producer Roz Doyle and colleagues Bulldog Briscoe, Gil Chesterton, Kenny Daley and others. Frasier also has to have his widowed, injured father Martin move in with him, since ex-policeman Martin was shot in the hip in 1991 and can't live alone any more. Martin's home care worker Daphne Moon lives with them, and Frasier's brother Niles is a frequent visitor to the house, especially to Daphne whom he had a secret crush on.
2 When did the show air? Is it still on?
The show aired on NBC from 1993 to 2004, spanning 11 seasons. It is no longer broadcasting on NBC as production has now finished on the show. In the UK, the show ran from 1994 to 2004 on Channel 4, and repeats of every episode can be seen on the Paramount Comedy Channel.
3 When did the first and last episodes of Frasier air?
The first episode, Ep 1 "The Good Son", first aired in the USA on September 16th 1993 and in the UK on April 20th 1994. The finale, Ep 257 "Goodnight Seattle", first aired in the USA on May 13th 2004 and in the UK on June 23rd 2004. Altogether there were 257 episodes, consisting of 250 half hour episodes and 7 hour long episodes.
4 Who are the main characters?
Visit the Character Profile page for details on characters both major and minor. The "main" characters were Frasier, Niles and Martin Crane, Daphne Moon, Roz Doyle, Bulldog Briscoe and Eddie the dog. There were other semi-regular characters such as station manager Kenny Daley or Frasier's ex-wife Lilith Sternin. All of them have their own pages in the Character Profile section.
There is indeed! Check out my Episode Guide which has a full page for every episode. Episodes are grouped together by season. The episode guides are currently being revamped to include a picture as well!
He is a Jack Russell Terrier.
7 Is it just me, or has Eddie changed looks lately? Is he still the same dog?
Eddie has been played by 2 dogs over the years. Originally, he was played by Moose. But as Moose got older, his son Enzo took over the role for him for the more challenging work. Enzo has shorter hair and slightly different markings than his father and usually played the role in the later seasons of the show.
8 Did they actually cast someone as Maris before deciding not to let us see her?
The plan was to talk about her and then introduce her, so a few names were under consideration, but no-one was actually cast as Maris.
9 Is it true Kelsey Grammer had to miss an episode?
No, he appeared in every single one of them. During the show's 4th season though, Kelsey was treated for his drug problems and as such the show's production stopped for a couple of weeks. One episode, Ep 77 "Head Game", was actually written for Frasier but due to Kelsey's problems had to be rewritten for Niles instead. Frasier only appears in the first scene of that episode, which was filmed at a later date.
10 Why was Daphne absent from some episodes in Season 8?
Jane Leeves was pregnant during the first half of Season 8 and naturally had a few episodes off for maternity leave. Her character, Daphne, was sent to a fat farm to explain the absence.
11 Why was Roz absent from some episodes in Season 11?
Peri Gilpin was in a play during second and third episodes of Season 11 (in production order, they were the second and fourth episodes of the Season in broadcast order) and as such couldn't appear in 2 of them.
12 On Cheers Frasier said his father was dead - why is Martin alive in Frasier?
When Frasier began, Kelsey Grammer reminded the producers that Frasier had said that. An explanation was given when Sam Malone, from Cheers, visited Frasier in Seattle. Frasier had apparently just had a massive argument with Martin on the 'phone just before he told Sam about his home life.
Only Niles and Daphne know this one!!! The writers let the audience think up their own versions here. It's up to you what they said.
This is a very common question! The episode is Ep 133 "Three Valentines" from Season 6.
15 What are the lyrics to the theme song and who sings it?
Kelsey Grammer sings it, and the ever changing words can be found here.
16 What was that song Frasier sung in the Leap Year's episode?
It was called "Buttons and Bows", from the musical Paleface.
17 Is Elliot Bay Towers real? Where is that view from?
No, the building is not real! The views of Seattle that can be seen from Frasier's apartment are huge photos that were apparently taken from a hill near Seattle. Photos were taken for different times of the day - morning, early evening etc, and to allow for the weather (in some episodes it is raining outside for example).

1 Where can I find out more about the cast?
The main cast members and several recurring semi-regulars all have their own pages containing biographies and other productions they have featured in, which can be found here.
Frasier has 3 co-creators, David Angell, Peter Casey and David Lee. Biographies for each can be found here.
3 I heard one of the creators was killed. What happened?
Sadly, co-creator David Angell and his wife Lynn were on board the first jet to crash into the World Trade Center on 9/11.
There are lists of all the writers and directors for the show in the Behind The Scenes section. Each writer and director also has a short biography with other programmes they have written/directed for.
5 I'd like to write a message to the cast. Can you pass them on for me?
Sadly, no. I am not connected to the cast or crew in any way, much as I would love to be!
6 Is producer Christopher Lloyd the actor who starred in Back To The Future?
No, he isn't. It's a different Christopher Lloyd. They just happen to share a name.
7 Is Moose, who plays Eddie, still around?
Sadly, Moose died of old age on June 22, 2006. He was 15 1/2. His son Enzo who played Eddie in the later years is still around though.
8 I have some information you don't have. Can I send it in?
By all means! Just contact me and send it in.

1 Is the show available on DVD?
It is, or at least some of it is. See the next question.
2 What seasons are currently available?
Here's a list of what's available for Region 1 and Region 2 DVDs.
Region 1 (North America): Seasons 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 and 11
Region 2 (Europe): Seasons 1, 2, 3 and 4
3 When are the next seasons coming out on DVD?
Again, by Region:
Region 1 (North America): Seasons 9 and 10 will be released in autumn 2006, no set dates have been revealed just yet.
Region 2 (Europe): Season 5 will probably be released in late 2006. There is no release date yet for Season 11 for Region 2 - perhaps we in Europe are getting them all in the correct order (ie, we will get Season 11 after Season 10)?
4 Why is Region 2 so far behind Region 1?
Only Paramount know the answer to this one. At first the Region 1 DVDs were released first as a "test" - if they sold well, then the Region 2 DVDs would follow. But now there is no excuse, especially as both Regions have the same extras etc. The basic answer is: I don't know for sure. Sorry!
5 What about other merchandise?
There have been lots of Frasier books, videos of the first 4 seasons, a soundtrack CD and lots more! Visit my Merchandise page for more details.
6 Do you sell any merchandise through your site?
No, sorry. This isn't because I don't want to, but purely because I don't have the time or money to do so. I'd recommend checking out sites such as eBay, Play, or Amazon if you wish to buy Frasier merchandise.
Section D: Goodnight Seattle, the website |
---|
1 Who are you? Do you work for Paramount?
No, I don't. My name is Gareth Thomas and I live in the United Kingdom. I'm 21 years old and have work and University to attend to as well as this site! I'm just a big Frasier fan who set up his own little website (well, it was when it started!). I have no connections with the show or Paramount in any way.
2 Any chance of putting some video clips on the site?
No. This is for 3 reasons.
I don't have the time or webspace to do so.
I don't know how.
I don't really support the idea. After all, if people can watch videos here, they're not going to watch the show as much or buy the DVDs, are they?
3 Why do I have to put GNS in my e-mails to you?
When you contact me, I ask that you put "GNS" in the subject bar, followed by the subject of your e-mail eg "GNS Which episode...?" or "GNS info on Roz". I've programmed my e-mail account so that every e-mail with GNS in it goes to my GNS folder, meaning all GNS e-mails are together. It just makes things a bit easier for me, that's all. :-)
4 Why isn't {stuff} included on the site?
There are 3 reasons:
I didn't know about it and will add it in at the first possible moment. I always like receiving new information, so contact me and let me know.
It is there, you're just looking on the wrong page. It does happen sometimes, so don't worry! :-)
It isn't true or hasn't been mentioned in the show itself.
5 I like the quiz and wordsearch - will the answers be put online?
Nom that spoils the fun! But if you really want to know the answers, contact me and I will send them to you.
6 Can I borrow stuff from your site, ie could I reproduce your character profiles for my site?
Although this website is about a television show which I do not have any connections to, most of what is on this site has been written by me, such as all the character profiles, episodes guides and all the various lists and trivia. I don't mind people "borrowing" from my website, just as long as you ask me first and put a link to Goodnight Seattle, giving me credit for whatever it is you have borrowed. Photographs from the episode guides have been borrowed from other sources (and yes, I did ask!) so if you want to borrow them, visit the Photo Credits page and contact them that way. Fan fictions not written by me are nothing to do with me so you will have to contact the relevant authors.
7 Is there a place on your website where I can talk with other Frasier fans?
Indeed there is! Click here to visit the Goodnight Seattle Message Board. It's the place to go if you want to discuss Frasier with other fans, ask those questions that have always been bugging you, or get opinions on something Frasier-related!
If we were to go by production codes, then yes they should be. The hour long episodes were usually filmed over 2 weeks, although not always "Part 1 one week, Part 2 the next". However, when they were broadcast, they were aired as one 1 hour episode, with one writer/set of writers, one director, and one closing sequence for the whole episode. In my book, that makes them one episode, and as such I number them accordingly. It did mean that the 200th episode was actually 194 by my numbering, but by then it was much too late to change everything! :-)
