ROUND 16
Saturday 24th of
June.
EAGLES 6.1 13.6
20.7 24.12 (156)
GLENELG 3.1 7.2 8.3 9.4 (58)
Glenelg were just
simply out-classed by the permiership favourites. There
is not much more that can be said. Mellody, Hams and Hele
were the only players who can claim to have won their
positions. Hams' effort to kick 5.1 from limited
opportunities marked a long awaited return to form for
the full-forward.
Watching the game, I felt that the Glenelg players were
desperate and commited (unlike the round 9 debacle at
Woodville) but simply were not good enough. Its is
becoming increasingly difficult to see where the next win
is going to come from. Oh well, the under 17's had a good
win!

Kluzek in
10-goal rampage
By Nikki Tugwell.
Well drilled Woodvill-West Torrens yesterday toyed with
Glenelg before completely outclassing it in a clinical
98-point win at Glenelg Oval.
The Tigers failed to trouble the disciplined Eagles,
whose clean skills and numbers around the ball allowed
them to increase a significant buffer at each break.
Eagles full-forward Chris Kluzek booted his 50th goal for
the seson in the second quarter and was simply too good
for Glenelg's backmen Duncan Draper and Paul Sherwood.
Kluzek's cause was aided by swift and intuitive ball
movement into the forward line by midfielders queing for
a piece of the action.
Gavin Colville, Nick Pesch and Kluzek had paved the way
for the Eagles, with John McCarthy and Jamie Tape shrewd
in defence.
Kluzek constantly managed to find space and his marking
under pressure and goal kicking was a feature. After
kicking 10.2, he left the ground late in the final
quarter as a precationary measure with ankle soreness.
The Eagles, who had 10 goals scorers, benefited from a
functional forward structure, where Michael Phillipou and
Matthew Kluzek also proved a handful.
"We weathered it early and got the ball moving well
and our forwards did the job for us," a satisfied
Eagles' coach Paul Hamilton said. "We really got on
top of things in the third quarter and our running and
ball handling were probably just a touch better."
For Glenelg, Martin Mellody was one of its few clear
winners. Team mates Alistair Burke and David Hams worked
tirelessly, while big man Matthew Golding provided
inspiration befor half-time. His impact, however, was
nullified in the second half when he was clearly beaten.
The Eagles lead by 40 points at half-time and the result
was a formality after the break.
Andrew Beveridge and Spiros Darzanos joined the host of
dominant Eagles who combined to tally seven third-quarter
goals to Glenelg's one.
The final siren put Glenelg out of its misery, but not
before the Eagles added four last quarter goals to one-
protecting its position at the top of the ladder. The
Tigers slumped to their 12th loss.
"We matched them pretty well in the first
half," Glenelg coach Tony McGuiness said. "We
were well down, but our effort was good as far as our
game plan set up and structure around the footy goes. But
in the third quarter, it opened up and opened up pretty
badly."
