Progress Report
December 1997, January 1998
Here is what we have done in December and January:
Math:
Kevin has taken his third Math test. He did a noteworthy job, earning a 91%. He is now learning inclusion, evaluation of algebraic expressions, factors and coefficients, the distributive property and addition of like terms.
--Kevin has also taken his fourth test and scored a 90% on it.
Erin has taken her second test. She also did wonderfully, scoring a 96%. Erin is learning word problems, time and linear measurement, improper and equivalent fractions, and reducing fractions.
--Erin has now finished her third test and received a 97%.
Vocabulary, Language Arts: Kevin and Erin have taken four vocabulary tests and they have not missed one word !
In Language Arts:

In Grammar we have been learning about verb tenses, action and linking verbs, progressive and perfect tense, transitive and intransitive verb and indiret objects. We are gearing up for a major verbs test and a cumulative test.
--The children have now taken the two big tests. One dealt with verbs and they both did an excellent job, Erin getting a 90% and Kevin getting a 96%.
--They have now finished two other big tests dealing with nouns. They did wonderfully on both of these as well.
Reading: Kevin and Erin have finished working on their Book Reports. We'll have to wait to see the results...
--Results were exemplary, both reports have earned "A's"
Kevin and Erin have both chosen their books for the next book report which is due January 30.

Social Studies: In Social Studies we are continuing our study of Africa, moving up the continent to:
- Somalia
- Ethiopia
- Djibouti
- Eritrea
- Sudan
- Chad
- Central African Republic
- Cameroon
- Nigeria
- Niger
Kevin and Erin will again be doing a report on the subject of their choice-to be determined. This report was due in January (after the Holiday break). Reports were:

Science: In science we have learned about the Moon. Some of our studies have been on the phases and the rotation of the moon. We have also learned about lunar eclipses and the effect of the moon on the tides.
We have taken our test & have both scored 100% on it!
--We are beginning to study about stars. We have learned about the composition, magnitude, and life cycle of stars.
We had our test on the stars; Erin got a 99% and Kevin got a 100%. Way to go!!!
Bible Studies: We are still reading The Parables of Jesus by Simon Kistemaker. These are the Parables we have discussed this month-

Computer: Kevin is creating a new Cyberpets page
Erin continues to update her pages and is busy finding "toys" for her adopted cyber-teddy bears. She also has begun her own
Enchanted Forest page.
Art & Music: In Art Kevin and Erin have been experimenting with real watercolors we got on Christmas. They have created some wonderful paintings.
In Music we have been listening to The Nutcracker Suite by Tchaikovsky. We are trying to find The 1812 Overture.
Physical Education: Outdoor Activities, Hide and Seek
