Progress Report

February 1998

Here is what we have done in February:

Math: Kevin Has just taken his first test this month. It was on the Distributive properties of expression. He got a 100% on it. Yay Kevin.
--His second test, was on finiding a variable in an equation. He got a 100%.
--His third test was on algebraic phrases. He got a 100% yet again.
--His fourth test was on finding unknown numbers in two-step equations. He got a 95% on it. He has also been learning how to find a variable by using expressions and advanced problems using the distributive properties of algebra.
Erin has been learning about dividing and multiplying fractions and reciprocals. She also learned about rounding, estimating, simplifying improper and mixed fractions, and estimating. Her first test this month was on two-step word problems. She got a 92% on it. YAY!!
--Her second test was on simplifting mixed and improper fractions. She got a 90%.
-- Her third test was on Common Denominators and rounding. She got 100%.
YAY to Both Kids !!!

Vocabulary, Language Arts: In Vocabulary Kevin and Erin have taken the test for the thirteenth list. They both got 105%. YAY!! GREAT JOB BOTH OF YOU!!!!
--They have taken the tests on the fourteeth, fifteenth, and sixteenth lists and got excellent scores on all of them.
--They have taken the test on combined lists from 13-16; Kevin got a 100% and Erin got a 96%. GREAT JOB!!!
In Language Arts we have been learning about interjections (WOW!), Conjunctions and Adjectives.
Our Greek Words that we've learned in February--

  • prae - before, going forward.
  • ad - to, toward; near, next to
We took a combined test on the first twenty Greek and Latin Root Words; Kevin got a 97% and Erin got a 98%. YAY!!

Reading: Kevin and Erin will both be turning in another Book Report this month. The Book Reports for January were-
      Kevin-Fellowship of the Ring- book I by J.R.R. Tolkein
     Erin- Pinnocchio by Carlo Collodi
--Both Reports were quite well done and earned excellent marks.
February Kevin and Erin have now chosen new books for February's report-
     Kevin- The Fellowship of the Ring- book II by J.R.R. Tolkien
     Erin- The Red Rose Mystery by Ann M. Martin
--update-They finished their book reports and they were simply wonderful. Siskel and Ebert gave them two thumbs up! *LOL*

Social Studies: In Social Studies we are continuing our study of Africa.

  • Somalia (DONE)
  • Ethiopia (DONE)
  • Djibouti (DONE)
  • Eritrea (DONE)
  • Sudan (DONE)
  • Chad
  • Central African Republic
  • Cameroon
  • Nigeria
  • Niger
Kevin and Erin were asked to do a special report for Black History Month. Both reports were well researched and earned an A.
Erin --- Rosa Parks
Kevin --- Harriet (Araminta) Tubman

Science: We have learned about the different classifications of galaxies. We have studied Earth's galaxy-the Milky Way. We have learned about quasars.
-- We had a test on these subjects and both scored a 100%.

Bible Studies: We are reading The Parables of Jesus These are the Parables we have discussed this month-

  • TEN VIRGINS- Matthew 25:1-13
  • TALENTS- Matthew 25:14-30
  • LAST JUDGEMENT- Matthew 25:31-46
  • TWO DEBTORS- Luke 7: 36-50

Computer: Kevin will be continuing his work on his New Redwall page and Erin Will add to her new homepage.

Art & Music: In Art Kevin and Erin are going to paint a galaxy picture.
In Music we are listening to Tchaikovsky (we are still trying to find his 1812 overture).

Physical Education: Ball Bouncing Skills ("A" my name is Alice/Albert)

Future Plans: In March---If the weather cooperates we may begin some gardening work--seeds and flowers-and we should be ready to begin out study of "Bats"
