Progress Report

March 1998

Here is what we have done in March:

Math: Kevin has been learning ratio, and expanding variable fractions:
           (example- p2/x3(x3/p2-y4)=p2x3/x3p2-p2y4/x3, simplify 1-p2y4/x3)
He has also been learning about ratio, advanced ratio, and simplifying variables with negative exponents. He has also learned how to add fractions with variables and fractions with unequal variables.
Erin has been learning about adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing decimals. She has also learned about changing fractions to decimals.

Vocabulary, Language Arts: Kevin and Erin have been learning about sentences, phrases, and clauses. We are also learning about adverbs and adjectives. They both scored well on a big review test this month.
Our Greek Words that we've learned in March--

  • jacio, jactum-- throw
  • pono, positum-- put, place, lay
  • cum-- with, together
  • figo, fixum-- fix, fasten, attach
  • jungo, junctum-- join, unite, connect

Reading: Kevin and Erin will both be turning in one Book Report each month. The books chosen for March are-
     Kevin-The Long Patrol by Brian Jacques
     Erin- A Pizza the Size of the Sun a poem book by Jack Prelutsky

*Update* - They both got an A on the book reports.

Social Studies: In Social Studies we are continuing our study of Africa.

  • Somalia (DONE)
  • Ethiopia (DONE)
  • Djibouti (DONE)
  • Eritrea (DONE)
  • Sudan (DONE)
  • Chad (DONE)
  • Central African Republic (DONE)
  • Cameroon (DONE)
  • Nigeria (DONE)
  • Niger (DONE)
Kevin will be doing an extended report on Sudan

They have taken the test and Erin got a 95% and Kevin got a 100%.

Science: We have learned about asteroids and comets, meteors and meteorites. We are preparing for a big test on all the sections. They finished the astronomy unit and have taken our final exam. Erin got a 94% and Kevin got a 100%. WOW!! GOOD JOB YOU TWO!!! They are now beginnig a unit on bats.

Bible Studies: We are reading The Parables of Jesus These are the Parables we have discussed this month-

  • THE GOOD SAMARITAN- Luke 10:25-37
  • THE FRIEND AT MIDNIGHT- Luke 11:5-8
  • THE RICH FOOL- Luke 12:13-21
  • BARREN FIG TREE- Luke 13:6-9
  • PLACES OF HONOR- Luke 14:7-14 (beginning)

Computer: Kevin will be continuing his work on his New Redwall page and Erin Will work on her new homepage.

Art & Music: In art Erin is teaching Kevin and Mom sign language colors. In Music we have ended Rossini. And ironically, we have finally found the 1812 overture. *LOL*

Physical Education: ??????
