Towards a Perfect Democracy "Alternatives"

Chapter 4

The form of Governance

What kind of setup my Country should have ? What sort of Government a civilised Nation needs, Oligarchy, Timocracy, Anarchist, a perfect Communist, Dictatorial or some other ?

The form of Government which I would desire for any Country without any second thought is none other than democracy, but not in the present structure. A democratic structure, if corrupted, is worst than an anarchist setup. I would like my Country to have  Perfect Democracy.

The conditions of a Country, in general must be kept in mind before rushing to suggest a democratic setup to suit that Country, though the same would not limit its practical application in any other  State. The setup must mould a Country to the needs of univarsalisation and should be of the standard to withstand the pressure of Global demands. Those who are influenced by examples and those who say that there are no example of this kind of setup may be told that precendences do not necessarily rule the world, had that been the case, history would have been repetitive.

Democracies have been in existence since hundreds of years. These democratic structure claim to provide for equal participation of all in a Government, they claim to be a people’s Government, but the fact remains that most of such Governments are influenceable and are influenced and driven by a selected few, most of these Governments are more or less a reflection of aristocracies and other forms of governance. History is full of incidents where democracies perished and were transformed within months of its formation into tyrannical, dictatorial or anarchist style of governance because of its foolhardy implementation of philosophies of democracy and common good.

Most of the people do not understand the true meaning of democracy. For them it is plainly, equal participation of all in a Government, but democracy stands for much more than this. A Perfect Democratic State would be a State where the really deserving vote to elect the most deserving in adopting a pattern which provides for the maximum welfare of the people of the State.

If you are to delegate authority to a person to make a choice on your behalf, will you ever delegate this authority to a person whom you know is not so intelligent ? To prove my point, let us take a case of a hypothetical case of an organisation, where one is to appoint an office boy. Even in this case it would be rare that the appointing person/authority compromise on the quality and appoint a second choice, after all the rounds of interviews. Then how can you allow dumb, illetrate and near muddle headed  people to decide the fate of your Country or any State for that matter?

A true democracy must provide for equality among equals. It must provide the best which anyone deserves to his/her ability and intellect, it must provide for maximum achievable freedom for all, it should not be oppression of minority of any form.

Though I personally believe that in reality there are no majority or minority groups and majority and minority groups have a very limited meaning which has now turned into an exaggerated concept by selfish power seekers. I believe that sheer ideology and ideas about a particular subject because of which some may have a different point of view can never result in a group being labelled as minorities unless and until they are intentionally branded like that.

In a true democracy, I repeat there are to be no rulers of people, by whatever name they be called, but public spirited custodians of Government, who must give the rightful due to everyone.

[By rulers, I do not mean only Kings or Dictators of orthodox understanding, but people who by reason of their position can exercise control on others and they themselves are under no real control or their actions are not under scrutiny]
