Many famous MC's came outta Queensbridge: Marley Marl, Biz Markie, MC Shan, and the one Nasir Jones AKA Nasty Nas. He is one of hip hop's truest MCs.
Nas was born in Long Island and grew up in Queensbridge. He made his debut on Main Source's "Live at the BBQ". MC Serch from Third Bass spotted him out and put him on the Zebrahead soundtrack (remember the song "Halftime") and on his album on the song "Back to the Grill Again". In 1994, he released his debut alblum, "Illmatic" and was said to be the next Rakim. This album recieved rave reviews and The Source magazine gave it 5 Mics making it a hip hop classic. Nas was a lyrically genuis. People couldn't wait for the next Nasty Nas album to come out. In 1996, Nas tranforms himself into Nas Esodar and "It Was Written", dropped with it's first single being, "If I Rules the World" featuring Lauryn Hill singing the hook. True hip hop heads were disappionted because Nas became more commerical. In 1997, he teams up with Foxy Brown and AZ for, "The Firm" album. Nas was finding it hard to regain his crown and return to the Illmatic status. In 1999, he drops he third and fourth album, "I am" and "Nastradamus". Nas says that he put his whole life on the his first album and that's what made it a classic. Lately, Nas has by caught up in some beef with Jay-z with back and forth battles but he'll answer back in his up coming album, "Stillmatic", due out in December. |
