2.2 Introduction to energy flow

Animals (consumer) get their energy from food and body material made by producer. The energy is further transferred when the animals are eaten by other animals. Therefore, energy flows via the ecosystem in the form of food.

On the other hand, there is a loss of energy though the release of heat when energy is flowing. Fortunately, this loss will be balanced by the energy captured from the sun by the plant.

The energy flow in an ecosystem can be represented by food chain and food web, which we are going to go into detail in the following section.
