The APC is being extremely generous to provide the hospitality of NOT ONLY their tennis facility, but they are also offering to provide a BBQ Picnic for us.  They are offering the invitation for FREE.   All they are asking for is who would like to attend, so they know how much food they need to purchase.  Which certainly sounds extraordinarily reasonable and the least we can do.

The generous hospitality of this FREE invitation from the Arlington APC Board has been offered to our Hoboken Group to help further strengthen Hudson County Tennis and help all our county tennis clubs work better together.   It's unbelievable that they are offering extraordinary invitation for FREE  to our Hoboken group.   Frankly this invitation is just too generous and shouldn't go unrecognized by any of us.

So It's FREE, BUT   We all know for so many reasons that it's just NOT RIGHT be an invited guest and go to a party empty handed.

Since Mama told us,  - If you're an invited party guest to someone's house - NEVER GO EMPTY HANDED.   We "strongly encourage" all RSVPed invited guests to bring a votive contribution to the party and meal.  Bottles of Wine, Cases of Beer, Vodka, Martini's, Diet Snapples, Sodas, Cakes, Fresh Fruit, Nuts, Desserts, Etc. Etc.  What's best is Whatever you think would make a great contribution to the event.

Playing at Arlington will be fun -  This will be the best social tennis we've played yet.

How late will the party go?  Who Knows?  When it gets Dark the party will move into the clubhouse.

Best Of All - You get to play tennis on Clay Courts, which is a treat.

The Arlington APC has Seven Clay Courts, a Clubhouse and some of the best Tennis competition in the area.  It's Hudson County's Only Private Tennis Club.  They are hosting this event as a very positive Hudson tennis community service.   Since they are currently in membership drive mode and are looking to try to meet a few new tennis members for this year, this is a great way to get to know the APC in order to see if the it's right for you or other area tennis players you might know.

DRESS CODE -  Most Private Clubs have these rules -

  1. Men collared & sleeved tee shirts
  2. Ladies - You know best,  Almost anything goes
  3. ALL Warm ups or sweat suits OK
  4. Sneakers - Flat Sneakers preferred so it does dig up the clay court surface.
  5. There is NO "All White"  Rule
  6. There is NO - "No Denim" Rules

LOCKER ROOMS -  Yes there are both ladies and mens locker rooms with showers

Still Can't Believe, IT'S FREE!  - This is very generous of Arlington Board of Directors and it will be a pleasure to get to know their club better.  I'm sure one or two of you might be interested in their club, if not this year maybe next.

The Arlington Players Club has some very high quality tennis competition. They have many leagues and teams in order to play against other NJ & NY tennis clubs.   If you're into full time and all the time tennis competition, this could be the place for you.

They are looking for new members for this year, so here's their club info and membership materials.  If this is just NOT right for you, perhaps you would consider a referral to other friends who might be more inclined to join this type organization.

The Arlington Players Club is an outdoor tennis club with 7 red clay courts located about 5 miles south of Giant Stadium and 4 miles south of the intersection of routes 3 and 17. In addition to a long and proud history, the 95 year old club has a spacious club house with separate locker room facilities for men and women. The playing season extend from April to some time after Thanksgiving, depending upon the weather.

Opportunities abound to play tennis with little or no waiting on the 7 red clay courts. Whole many players like to schedule games in advance, other simply come to the club and play pick-up games, especially on weekends with members who gather on the club porch.

A special opportunity to see the best players in the metropolitan area is provided at the New Jersey State Tournament. The State Tournament is held the 3rd week in June at the club (the tournament starts on Saturday, June 19 this year and finishes on Sunday, June 27).

To assure a warm and social atmosphere where club members can get to know each other better, the club’s Hospitality Committee has summer picnics on the club lawn; a breakfast a Wimbledon on the day of the Wimbledon finals; a spaghetti and meatball dinner is held on the day of the finals of the U.S. Open; a Super Bowl party at the club; dances at the club; member-guest days; and get acquainted gatherings for mew members.

From early July to mid-August, the Arlington Players Club sponsors a six week Junior Development Tennis Clinic for juniors from ages 7 to 17. In 2003 100 youngsters participated in the clinic. The clinic finished with 4 junior tournaments¾girls intermediate, boys intermediate, girls advance, boys advanced. There is also pizza-soda party in the club house. At the party tournament prizes are awarded and tee shirts are given to all clinic participants.

A club newsletter informing the membership of club activities, tournaments, socials is mailed to all members in the Spring and Fall. Frequent update mailings are sent to all club members during the year.  A 14 person Board of Governors headed by an Executive Committee assures the smooth running of the club. All Board members are club members and are elected the members at the annual December General Meeting. At the Annual Meeting, recognition is given to players with awards to club tournament winners and runners-up; membership dues are voted on; and Sportsmanship and Service awards are presented.
