In 1820, Singapore mangrove forest covered 13% of Singapore land area. Today, only a mere less than 5% remained. For the past decades, the mangrove forest has provided the villagers with shelter, food, fuel and medicine.
A guided trip into the reserve will give you an insight of how the mangrove forest has supported the villagers and you will be fascinated by the ecosystem and plant diversity in the reserve. It is more than
a "birding" place as written by many travel guides.
