  • New local body system announced which revolves around a 21 member union council elected on non party basis.The nazims of these council become members of the zila council and the naib nazims goto the tehseel councils. The members of the zila council will elect a zila nazim who will run the district affairs with a district coordination officer and 13 district officers. DC/commissioners abolished.   • The publication of supposed excerpts of The Hamoodurrehman commission report on the 1971 debacle in East Pakistan in an Indian newspaper and quoted widely on the internet has caused an uproar.The present government most probably released or sold the excerpts. It blames the loss on a loose moral fibre that exists amongst Pakistan army officers. However the tiny Pakistan army hemmed in by secessionist anti Pakistan Bengalis and waiting unsuccessfully for American intervention literally keeled over without a fight when India invaded. The only question that remains unanswered is why musharaf released the report in this way?Some politicians are asking for the generals involved tobe tried. Some want to know why the order to fight till the end was not given. Others wonder why our army tends to make the Indian army look so good when we are supposedly braver and superior?
