New Shows Set for 2001 Twenty new shows have been announced (or rumored!) for the 2001 Branson season. In addition to the Gatlin Brothers Christmas Reunion, Roy Clark's teaming with Doug Gabriel, and Ripleys Live - Believe It Or Not (see related articles on this page) there are seventeen other new shows in Branson for 2001.A Closer Walk With Patsy Cline , featuring Terri Williams, opens at the newly renamed ShowTown Theatre (formerly the Wild West Theatre) on May 25. Terri has played this role before as well as performing in the Moe Bandy Show.That 70's Music Show , has opened at the Dogwood Theatre Wednesday through Saturday.The Branson Guitar Show , featuring Jim Greeninger, is playing at the newly renamed Club Vegas at the Lodge of the Ozarks. Shows will be lunch or dinner shows at either 11:30 or 5:30 daily.Playing at 10 a.m. at Planet Branson will be The John Tweed Show. Opening March 1, the show will feature Branson's only four-octave vocalist, who will perform the best-loved music of our time.Cracklin' Rose , a musical review featuring songs made famous by Neil Diamond will open at the Grand Palace on April 6 and then move to the Remington Theatre after Labor Day. The show will be a full stage production including a seven-piece live orchestra and beautiful dancers in magnificent costumes.Two new shows are open at the Majestic Theatre (formerly the Thunderbird Theatre). The John Gabriel Show features Jumbo the disappearing elephant along with other magic and illusion. Also featured is the Comedy Pet Theatre.The Viva Las Vegas Supper Club will feature Dick Contino, the legendary virtuoso of the accordion and Babe Pier, the man of a thousand faces at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. The Four Aces will headline the evening shows at 6 p.m. and again at 10:30 p.m.Playing at the Magical Palace is The Zhivago Show featuring Valeri Glava, the sensational Russian violin virtuoso and "Mansound," noted for their Acapella harmony.Charley Prose performed April 18-29 at the Yakov Smirnoff Theatre. During his two-hour show Prose delivered humor, romantic songs, and good-time ballads, backed up by David Grayson, featured female vocalists and the Charley Prose Band.The Branson USA Amusement Park has a new theater with a new show called The Magnificent 7.Performing outdoors beginning March 14 at Carson's Country Court will be the T.C. and Me Country Show "Music of America." The show features traditional country music and Hillbilly comedy. Featured performers are T.C. Coleman, Michael Earnshaw, and Tyler Daniels.Meanwhile, Jennifer has announced that Rhythm of the Dance will be coming to Branson from September 19 through October 20, 2001. She says that this show takes Irish step dance to the musical edge with a live band.The Larry King Live country music show is playing at 2 PM at the Ain't Misbehavin' Theatre.Scheduled to replace Kirby VanBurch at the newly renamed Mark Twain Playhouse is a Broadway style musical comedy called Mississippi Love. With shows at 8:00 PM Monday through Saturday and 2:00 PM matinees on Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday the show is set to open September 8, 2001.Finally, Breakfast with Norman Rockwell and Mark Twain is slated for a run at the Owen's Theatre in Downtown Branson.VanBurch Moves to Remington Theatre for 2001 Season Kirby VanBurch is moving to the Remington theatre for the 2001 season. VanBurch, who was named 1999 International Magician of the Year has performed in Branson since 1993. He performed at the Will Rogers Theatre in 2000. The 2001 show opens May 15. Gabriel Moves Across Street; Teams with Roy Clark After spending two years at the Starlite Theatre, Doug Gabriel has moved across the street to the Ripley's Believe It Or Not Theatre in 2001. In addition, Roy Clark will join Doug on select dates throughout the season. |
Return of the Gatlin Brothers! The Gatlin Brothers- Larry, Rudy, and Steve- will perform together for the first time in almost three years, doing 25 shows at the MGH Performing Arts Center in Branson. The Gatlins, who saw their greatest successes from the late 1970's through the 1980's, will appear in a holiday production titled, "The Larry Gatlin and the Gatlin Brothers Christmas Reunion Show." It will open on Thanksgiving. The shows will include the brothers singing plenty of holiday songs along with gospel music. Comedian Royce Elliott will also appear in the show. The announcement not only marks the brothers' personal reunion after several years of working apart but also the brothers' return to Branson after failing to get a theater opened in the early 1990's because of financial complications with local developers. In 2002, 61 shows are planned to kick off November 1 and run through December 14. September Opening for Many Fans of Andy Williams, Glen Campbell, Tony Orlando, The Osmonds, and Barbara Fairchild will have to wait until September to catch each star at his or her Branson theater. Sons of the Pioneers Return to the Braschler Theatre for 2001 The Sons of the Pioneers have announced that they will return to the Braschler Theatre for 2001 after performing at the Moe Bandy Theatre in 2000. The Pioneers will appear in the morning slot with a chuckwagon breakfast being served at 8:30 a.m. on Tuesday through Thursday and also on Saturday. They will also be performing at 8:00 p.m. on Friday with the chuckwagon meal served at 6:00 p.m. Osmond Theatre Changes Name Jimmy Osmond recently entered into a multi-year lease with On-Stage Entertainment, Inc. for them to operate and present their new show, Ripley's Live...Believe It Or Not at the theater from May through September. During this time the theater will change its name to the Ripley's Believer It Or Not Theatre. In September, the Osmond Family will take over the venue to present the previously scheduled shows including the Osmond Brothers Show from October through December and the Tony Orlando Show for select dates in October and November. Tony Melendez Performing at the Remember When Theatre Tony Melendez brings his show back to Branson this year at the IMAX Theatre. Performing matinees at the venue, Tony reprises his "Gift of Hope" show that was presented last year at the Braschler Theatre. Welk Theatre Announces Several Changes for 2001 Welk stars Dee Dee Lennon, JoAnn Castle, Ava Barber, and Jack Imel will not be with the show this season. Lennon is retiring, Castle will not be returning and Barber and Imel will join other Welk family members in concert appearances across the country. Stepping into the spotlight will be Tom Padilla, a finalist in the Welk Resort's 1999 "Hottest Accordionist in America" Competition, Russian Adagio team Pasha and Ilona, the Welk Singers and Dancers, Kristin Bernardi, Chris Cathcart, Lori Cathcart, Kenya Caughey and Chip Holderman. Orlando Performing; Wellford & Flashback away for 2001 Tony Orlando will be appearing in limited engagements at the Ripley's Believe It Or Not Theatre throughout the 2001 season. He will play select dates beginning in September Comedian Philip Wellford has announced that he will be away from Branson for the 2001 season performing on a cruise ship. Also, Flashback did so well in Branson last summer that it has left town to play Atlantic City.
