First off, as consumers we gotta keep educating ourselves and demanding better service. We have to make sure to get and keep receipts, get written guarantees and not deal with the company who "doesn't have the time to fill out this or that, but don't worry..." We have an incredible tool here. We can exchange information across the globe in seconds.

I don't work for anyone in this field, but I do run into poorly made items and scams that need to be addressed. I've also managed to dig up a few good pieces of info for the average consumer. I hope it helps you as much as it's helped me.

New! My Rants - Gotta say I'm getting tired of all the crap I see on a daily basis, and I'm beginning to wonder if any one else sees the repeat of bs from oil companies, banks, politicians, to tax us, charge us, and fee us to death!!! We gotta start saying 'No you're not', in masses.

If You live in Calgary, and you have lots of used clothes and the Salvation Army or The Mustard Seed won't take them, (they gotta be in v. good condition and be washed or dry-cleaned) because these clothes are worn and old, then donate these old clothes to C.U.P.S. on 7th Ave. and what becomes MacLeod trail south. (Or in other cities, try the other homeless shelters)

They will take and can use just about anything.

Information and Help:

Just some general info on CPC I've collected, I've been doing tropical fish for a number of years, (since about '93,) and I'm also with Aquatic Gardeners Association, and plant Geek. I also used to work as a Call Center rep for AT&T for US based customers when I lived in Edmonton.

Compton Petroleum Corporation UPDATE! These wells have been put on hold... for now. Licenses to drill six critical sour gas wells (applications no. 1276857, 1276858, 1276859, 1276860, 1307759, 1307760) and application for special well spacing (application no. 1278265) just outside of Calgary.

Keeping Tropical Fish - Here's some information to a setup for tropical freshwater fish (haven't done marine yet!), and keep you from spending more money then you need to spend.

How Cell Phones Work. - Thinking of getting a cell phone? Or maybe you just want to learn more, what the heck is pro-ration, or why did I get roaming charges this month!?! If you have these questions, I have some answers for you.

Telus - UPDATE! I had a lot of problems with one Provider here in Alberta - Telus. Read my info to find out why the Future isn't friendly.

  • Tech Schools - Are you thinking of upgrading? Going back to school? I would be careful on which school you chose to go and pay out your hard earned cash. I have discovered that some of these so-called higher education seem more like a money hopper! Outdated info and, teachers having a lack of interest, (or worse) and you having to pay for thousands of $$$ just for books.
  • CBC Marketplace. - A really good site for the consumer to visit is Marketplace on CBC. Recalls, warnings, anything really the consumer should know.
  • Canadian Taxpayers Federation - Who are we? The Canadian Taxpayers Federation is Canada's watchdog on government spending. Check out their site.
  • Competition Bureau - The Competition Bureau is responsible for administration and enforcement of the Competition Act, the Consumer Packaging and Labeling Act, the Textile Labeling Act and the Precious Metals Marking Act. Its role is to promote and maintain fair competition so that Canadians can benefit from lower prices, product choice and quality services. Check out their site.

About the Competition Bureau: If a jewelry store(s) has a regular price, and then they jack up the price so they can put it on sale, but you are not saving any money, that's a no-no. You have to be careful, even if every store in your area is selling whatever at, say, $100 and you see store 'A' sell it at $150, they can do that. But they can't sell it at $100 most of the time, jack the price up to $150, have a 1/3 off sale, and showing the sale price of $100. That's a fake sale. (duhhh)
