Curtain call

After the punch line give a slight pause to give time for audience appreciation. I used to end my stories abruptly with “Good afternoon” and then went down the stage. You should see the confused look in my audience’s faces – I think they were wondering “Is he through?”

Most stories have tail-enders. Tail-enders is a phrase like “...and they live happily ever after.” It is the phrase after the punch line that wraps up the story. They add some nice touch to your story. So, say them while enjoying the satisfaction on your listener’s face.

It will be greatly beneficial to wannabe storyteller to collect tail-enders. Some of them are gems like “…that’s the last thing they heard of him”, “and they live happily ever after” and my favorite “…that’s all folks”
