Young Wally West thought
that the Flash was the coolest super hero alive. One day while visiting his Aunt Iris in
Central City she surprised him... with a chance to actually meet the Flash! As his idol
showed Wally how he had gained his speed in a lab very similar to his own, a freak
lightning storm came and a bolt struck Wally through the window. Wally was bathed in
electrically-charged chemicals much like those that had given Barry Allen his powers some
time before, but seemed unhurt by the experience. Curious, however, the Flash challenged
Wally to a race - and Wally's life changed forever. His dreams had come true, and he
became Kid Flash. Years later, Barry Allen died in the Crisis on Infinite Earths. The
previous Flash, Jay Garrick, was still retired, leaving the world devoid of a Flash. Wally
chose to honor his uncle's memory, taking up the mantle of the Flash.
His powers have fluctuated wildly since then, but he gained new abilities when he learned
the truth behind super-speed: all speedsters are powered by an extra-dimensional
"speed force" which has more implications than simply running fast. He can
approach the speed of light, beyond which he can enter the timestream and travel (somewhat
haphazardly) through time. While he has once again developed the ability to vibrate his
molecules through objects, he now leaves a kinetic charge in his wake which causes the
object to explode. The speed force provides him with energy and stamina for running long
distances, and he is also able to share his speed with others.

RELATIONS WITH THE CORE
MEMBERS:
Superman - "Favorite Uncle".
Wonder Woman - "Favorite Aunt". He feels like he's there taking
place of his Uncle Barry, combined with a feeling of a child in an adult world.
Green Lantern - Because they are the two closest in age (and because of
Wally's history with Hal Jordan), they have a sort of friction between them. Quoted
directly from Grant Morrison: "While they're competent on their own, when they get
together they're like Beavis and Butt-Head."
Batman - He remembers hanging around with him and Robin as a kid, back
when Batman wasn't so dark and spooky and was a little bit more kind. He would talk to
Batman like nobody else would because of this.
Aquaman - Because he's so upbeat all the time, he would be the one who'd
talk to him and say, "Hey! You're freakin' us out, man!"
Martian Manhunter - He's too difficult for Wally to handle.
