Busy April

I'm sorry that I haven't updated this site for a while. It has been a busy April for me. Here are a few reasons why it has been so busy.

First off, I got into a little accident at the end of March. When I went ice skating on a Friday night, I fell awkwardly onto the ice. My chin hit the ice and I had a very bad cut. I was bleeding and my friends said that they could see the bone. Thankfully, my jaw did not break, but I was cut very seriously. I had to go to the hospital and get stitches done. Stitches are when a doctor uses a thread and needle to close up wounds. I had to get at least 7 stitches to close my cut. For about 5 days or so, I had to walk around with a big bandage on my chin. It looked sort of funny. After 5 days, a doctor helped to take the stitches out. Now that it is almost the end of April, my stitches are gone and it is difficult to see that I had cut my chin. So things look and feel much better now.

April is also the last month of the winter semester at UBC. I had my last week of classes and I had to write an exam and 2 papers. For the first 2 weeks of April, I was busy concentrating on studying for my exam. I also concentrated on researching and writing my two papers.

In the middle of all this fun, I also had a chance to go to the International Pacific Car and Light Truck Show. I'll call it the Auto Show for short. This was near the beginning of the month. The Auto Show was in the large football stadium called BC Place. Inside the stadium, we were able to walk around and look at all the different cars and trucks. The Auto Show had exhibits from all sorts of companies. There were the North American companies like General Motors, Ford, and Chrysler. There were Japanese companies like Honda, Nissan, Mazda, and Toyota. European cars, like Volvo, Volkswagen, BMW, and Mercedes Benz were also there. I spent 4 hours with a friend just walking around, looking at the cars, and even sitting inside the cars. Some of the cars were cars you could buy, but other cars were prototypes that are not cars you can drive. Prototypes are experimental cars that could become actual cars later in the future.

Another event this month was a dinner at my school to celebrate the retirement of one of our professors. She is a very sweet lady and was very kind and humourous. All of us thought she was a very good teacher and helped us to understand what we studied. She was also very helpful outside of class when we wanted to ask questions or when we wanted to borrow her books. We had a great dinner that included sushi, pizza, a lot of raw vegetables, and a cake.

Then there was also Easter weekend. That was a very busy weekend for me. I spent a lot of time with some very dear friends celebrating Easter. We had a special celebration for 4 of my friends. I was very happy for them that day and they all got gifts. On the Easter Sunday, at night, I went out to the park with my friends from high school (or middle school). We played frisbee. A frisbee is a plastic disc that you can throw back and forth between people. Afterwards, we went out to a bubble tea bar. Bubble tea is available in China. Sometimes it's called "Pearl Milk Tea." The "pearls" or "bubbles" are chewy little balls that one can eat. These "bubbles" are mixed into a milk tea drink. Some people like this drink, some people don't. If you have a chance, you can try it.

I took an exciting trip to Science World. I had mentioned before about an exhibit called "China! 7000 Years of Innovation." I went there with 3 friends. We had a really good time playing with the different exhibits there. There were artists from China at the exhibit. One of them was making paper, another one was making a silk picture, and another was making a picture on stone. It was very fascinating. We learned about Medicine, Silk, Architecture, Paper, and more. We had a really good time.

And right now, I am doing one week of practise work. For one week, I am working in local elementary schools (primary schools). I have been working with a speech therapist. He helps children who have speech problems. It has been really interesting and I've met some amazing children. I have really enjoyed this past week. In 10 days or so, I am going to another city in Canada to do more practise work, but I will be working in a hospital with an audiologist. An audiologist tests people's hearing and help those with hearing problems. I will be there for about 7 weeks.

So it's been about a month since my last article, but I hope this article helps you understand why I haven't written in such a long time. Take care.
