We are funded by local tax dollars and donations from the public, which come in the form of money, pet supplies, and equipment. We handle animals from Manhattan, Riley County, Ogden, and Pottawattamie county. Stray, healthy animals are held five days to be reclaimed by their owners. After five days, these animals are put up for adoption. Animals can stay in the shelter as long as there is room and they are healthy. The shelter is staffed by five Animal Shelter technicians, two Animal Control officers, and the Shelter/Control Supervisor. We are open seven days a week from 1 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. The staff is caring for the animals and cleaning the facilities from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. daily. We are closed holidays. Animal control officers respond to calls from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily.
