AN
AREA-WISE Review
This is a
very popular area for trekking in and around Bombay Regular and
frequent trains connect BOMBAY CST Railway station to KARJAT
Railway Station. This very beautiful area includes the now famous Matheran
Range and receives the most amount of visitors through out the year.
The
Thane Area
One can
reach these places even today but modern encroachments in this area
have almost destroyed these sites. Good family outings can be had at
the Dudha Lake.
The
Matheran Area
Matheran a
well known hill station. It is often very crowded on holidays but
one can escape to many destinations in and around the area. Good
roads connect most of these hills in this area. Take the PUNE
road and at SHIL PHATA turn towards KALYAN, then
towards KARJAT almost running parallel to the railway
lines. This road also leads towards the upper Matheran plateau. Good
family outings can be had at Kakuli
Lake, Barvi Dam, Bhoj
Lake and Panvel Lake.
The
Chowk Area
The main BOMBAY-PUNE
highway (NH-4) highway passes through this area. The road to GOA
bifurcates a little ahead of PANVEL. On this road places like
the Karnala Bird Sanctuary/Fort can be visited. Good family outings
can be had at Bhilavle Lake, Kalote-Mokashi
Dam, Donvat Dam, Nadhal
Lake, Pazar Lake, Savna
Lake and Karnala Bird
Sanctuary.
The
Karjat Area
Reach KARJAT
railway Station either by Train from BOMBAY CST or by
road. This area covers places to the south and the southeast of KARJAT.
Good family outings can be had at Palasdari
Lake, Kondana Caves, and Salpa
Lake.
