Once upon a time there was an evil company named Shin-Ra, and it was run by Rufus Shin-ra. Rufus, at the tender age of 16, always had what ever he wanted, so when he set his sights on little Rei Hino, he didn't expect to be told no. But he was. He asked her father for her hand in marrige and her father told him he would rather see his whole family dead than his only daughter married to a monster. So Rufus decided to live up to being a "monster" and had Rei's whole family killed. It was all supposed to be done in secret, so Rei would never know who did it, but somone made a mistake and Rei found out. She then devoted her entire life to training so she could someday avenge her family and kill Rufus Shin-Ra. This is where our story starts, but it is far from over. 9 years later Rei has set out to find Rufus, but along the way she meets a young wanderer named Sephiroth. It seems that Sephiroth also has a problem with Rufus. A while back, Sephiroth and Rufus fought, and Sephiroth lost, badly. So Rufus left him with a huge scar across his chest to always remind him of his loss. Sephiroth insists on joining Rei so he can fight Rufus again, but she says no. Sephiroth, being the chauvenistic pig that he is , then tells her that she is just a girl and needs a man to protect her, so he is coming no matter what she says. Sparks instantly fly. Rei and Sephiroth hate eachother, but is it really hate, or are they to afraid to admit that they actually like eachother? And as things always get worse before they get better, our duo next meets Princess Leta. She tells them that she has run away from her castle in search of adventure. Rei tells her to keep looking and starts to walk away. But of course, Sepiroth invites her to join them, promising lots of adventure. Rei gets pissed and says no, that this is a serious mission, but Sephiroth says that the Princess is cute and she is coming no matter what. Our trio soon comes to the abandoned Shin-Ra Mansion and Rei says that they have to investigate because Rufus used to work here and they might find something useful. Rei and Sephiroth go to explore upstairs and Rei tells Leta to go check the basement. When Leta protests, Rei gives her a little push...with her foot. While Leta is exploring, with only a candle, she comes to a room with a coffin in the center. She pushes the lid off and see's a man with long black hair lying in it and starts screaming.. After she calms down she says "Poor Guy,he didn't even get a proper funeral" She goes to push the lid back on when a hand grabs her and the man in the coffin sat up and blew out her candle. Leta runs out of the basement screaming and finds Rei and Sephiroth looking for her. When they see the man, he introduces himself as Vincent Valentine. Leta, realizing how cute Vincent is, demands that he join the party. Rei once again says no, but gives in when Leta starts throwing a Royal Fit, and Vincent agrees to come. So now our party of four continues thier quest.
