GRAPHIC ARTS
REQUIREMENTS:
-All Graphic Arts entries must have a cllassical theme.

-Entries must have a 3x5 index card whicch indicates the title (if there is one) of the piece, along with the student's name, level of Latin or Greek, school, and grade. The card must be attached to the back of the project.

-Only one entry per contest for any studdent will be accepted. There is no limit to how many entries any delegate may enter. Only one student may participate in the creation of each entry.

-All delegates planning to enter a graphhic art contest(s) must be present at the convention.

NEW RULES:

-The “brush” category has been subdividded into “water color” and “oil/acrylic”.

-The “Stylus” category (anything done wiith a pen, pencil, charcoal, or like instrument) has been subdivided into color and black & white.

-The “Photography” has been subdivided iinto color and black & white.

-Only one entry per person will be allowwed in each overall category (e.g. Stylus and Brush), but each subcategory will be judged separately.

Art work will be judged according to the following categories:

Stylus - This category includes all stylus entries: pencil, charcoal, pastel, pen.(subdivided into black and white, and color)
Mixed Media - This category includes any art work that combines brush work with stylus work.entries.
Brush - This category includes all brush work: watercolor, oil, acrylic, etc. (subdivided into black and white, and color)

Handicrafts - This category includes three-dimensional entries. They will be judges according to the following categories:

Cloth - This includes any entry made of any fabric that has been stitched or otherwise bound together. This may include dolls, decorative stitching (i.e. embroidery, quilts, needlepiont, etc.), banners, tee shirts, etc.
Large Models - Entries can be made of any wood or any other materials that don't need sculpting. Models are bound with nails, glue, etc. Large models are larger than one cubic foot.
Small Models - Entries can be made of any wood or any other materials that don't need sculpting. Models are bound with nails, glue, etc. Small models are smaller than one cubic foot.
Sculpting - Entries must be made of materials, such as paper mache, clay, pottery, wood, or any other material that requires the artist to sculpt the final result. Nails do not bind sculptures.
Mosaics - The entire space must be covered by the tesserae, including the background area. Tesserae do not have to be tiles. There are many other materials that are suitable. However, only one type of tesserae should be used in any mosaic.
Games - Games must be entirely original. Writing must be typewritten or legibly presented in ink. No computer games will be accepted.
Jewelry - Jewelry should be of the type worn by the people of the Classical era.
Greeting cards - Greeting cards must be 5x7 inches and may be written for any occasion. All words must be in Latin and the translation must be written on a 3x5 card. No copyrighted or computer-generated materials are allowed.
Cartoons - Cartoons may be either a single panel or a strip. The words do not need to be in Latin. Entries may be no larger than 3x8 inches. No copyrighted materials or computer-generated materials are allowed.
Photography - Photographs must be single pictures no larger than 8"x10". They must be accompanied by a short caption explaining the subject(s) in content.(subdivided into black and white, and color)
Miscellaneous - Projects may not be entered in this category simply to avoid having to comply with rules in other categories. Miscellaneous handicrafts are those which do not fall into the above categories (i.e. woodwork, decoupage, scatch art, etc.)

Teaching Materials - Maximum size is 48 X 36 inches.

Posters - Posters must advertise a Classical theme.
Charts - Charts should provide information pertinent to Classical civilization.
Maps - Maps should show an area pertinent to Classical times.
Illustrated quotations - The illustrated quotations may interpret the convention theme: "Natura inest in mentibus nodtris insatiabilis quaedam cupiditas veri videndi" ("("Nature has planted in our minds an insatiable longing to see the truth"), or another Latin quotation. The Latin quote must appear on the entry.

Audio-Visual Contest: Only audio-visual materials fully developed by students may be entered in this contest. The theme of the entries may be Roman history or culture, mythology, relevence to and promotion of Latin, Greek, JCL, or the convention theme for the year. The maximum length is 12 minutes. Proper credit must be given to prerecorded music and other media employed. Entries should be labelled with the name of the school. However, no students' names or school names may appear in the video or audio itself.
