Nikola Grbiæ
First Best European player - 1997!

Nikola Grbiæ was born in Zrenjanin, Yugoslavia, on 6th September 1973. Following his father's steps, he started to play volleyball early. He was only 14 when he first played for GIK Banat from Zrenjanin where he spent 3 seasons. After that, from 1990, he played for Vojvodina and won 2 Yugoslav championship titles there (1991/92. and 92/93.) and 1 YU cup (92/93). In 1994. he moved to Gabeca Montichiari, then he played the next season for TNT, and returned to Gabeca in 1996/97.

He achieved his first successes in Italy after the transfer to Alpitour Cuneo in 1997. With Alpitour, he won Cup Winners' cup and European Super Cup in 1998. Next season, they won the Italian cup, too.Nikola Grbic in Sisley

This season (1999/2000), he plays for European champion, Sisley Treviso, which has aspirations to defend that title this year (18th and 19th March) and it would be a surprise if they don't do it.

Nikola, however, won his greatest trophies with the national team, for which he has (by now) played 160 times. With Yugoslav team, he won 1 European silver (in 1997) and 2 bronzes ('95. and '99.); 1 bronze medal in the Olympics in Atlanta (1996) and 1 silver in the World championship in Japan in 1998. No golds yet, but hopefully he'll win one in Olympics this year (2000) :-).

Nikola is 195cm tall, he plays setter, but his serves may be dangerous, too. In each of the seasons played in Italy, he had around 20 ace services, which is around 1 per game.

His hobby is reading books, his favourite actor is Robert de Niro, he also likes football and his favourite player is Karch Kiraly.
