Before the season there were a number of changes. Lowestoft (the return of John Neeve), Stevenage (the return of Pete Amass) and Thames Valley (Tony Critchley manfully ran two teams to keep the league at 16) were created through a special expansion draft. The North Stars and Vantaa Devils rosters were frozen. Alan Hounsell renamed his team the Cathays Devils. Darren Jones pulled out halfway through the season so Bridgend's home games had to be completed for
them.
