Keith Turner, Pete O’Brien and Roger Seaman joined Tony Critchley
as double headers. Cardiff became Surbiton, Ashfield became the
Adel Barracudas and Bridgend became Sole Bay. Additionally, Simon
Burroughs had to withdraw so the Marauders home games were played using
autoplay.
Herts moved to D.C. mid-season.
Round 1
A top notch performance from Trevor Kidd blanked the defending Champions
at Bracknell as the Barracudas took Game 1 3-0. Back in Adel,
they duly completed the job. Elsewhere details were scarce. The
free-scoring Eagles got past the Seals to set up the Saxon
Conference final.
In the other conference, the usual battle of Ipswich took place, with
the Iceni coming out on top of arch-rivals Foxhall. The Iceni
were to face up to the original Adel side, the Puffins, who
overcame Thanet. Yet again a division winning regular season proved
fruitless for the Meteors, as they stumbled in the post-season.
Conference Finals
The Viking match-up involved two of the best defensive teams were pitted
against each other. In the end, the team with the best overall
record (Ipswich), couldn’t overcome the Chelios and Konstantinov led Puffins.
Back in the Saxon the Eagles were having similar problems with the Barracudas.
Star scorer Peter Bondra was largely shut down and led by the
play-making of Peter Forsberg the Barracudas progressed to face their
cross-town rivals in the Stanley Cup Final.
