Buchanan, where John Mc Nabb was born,
including the islands and mainland,is about 120 square miles.
It is bounded by Loch-lomond on the west;
by the parish of Arrochar on the north;
by Loch Katrine,
and the parishes of Aberfoyle and Drymen on the east;
and by the river Endrick on the south.
It's population in 1755 was about 1700,
while in 1831, it was down to 600
indicating many left the area for work in the lowlands.
During this era many Highlanders
intermarried with Lowland Scots,
as did John Mc Nabb.

James was the son of William Miller and Isabel Laird.
He was born on June 3, 1790 in Kilbarchan, Renfrewshire.
James Miller married Elizabeth Robertson about 1815

In 1865, his occupation was listed as Limestone Miner.
