In the Battle of Good and Evil
Author: Lost
Artist: Lost |
A young girl is caught in the struggle between Heaven and Hell. It turns out that they're both nondescript locations with ruthless, ominisavant but strangely inept entities for leaders. The only difference is that Hell is red while Heaven is white and has better fashion sense. |

Despite the author's best efforts, this story turns out more confusing than disturbing. A major mood-killer is the music in the last chapter. All through the Z-space (huh? where'd that come form?), the kinda-sorta explanations, the final plot twist and the surprise ending, we have the same rock-and-roll-like music. A slower, more dramatic piece, punctuated with silence in some parts, would help a lot here. |

What do Bananarama, Michael Jackson, and Madness have in common? They're featured in the 80's mega-mix MIDI playing throughout ALL of Chapter 5. It's a nice MIDI, because it ties many great songs together with a nice club-techno beat. So, why is it playing the ENTIRE chapter when the contents have nothing to do with the 1980's? |

This story tries to be really deep and disturbing. It deserves an E for effort, because there's certainly some disturbing ideas flowing around. It's just the execution that ruins it. It frequently just declares that an event happened with no build up. The first chapter sets up some intrigue, but by the end, it all feels rushed together. Also, the explanation for what happens to Lartruen doesn't jive with me, because if they thought she was legally insane, she wouldn't have been sentenced the way she was in any court. It's a shame, because it's got such wasted potential (more than I can say for MANY stories)...hey, this medley even has Rockwell in it! o/~ I always feel like / sombody's watching me o/~ |

All through the Kamishibai Lost complains about the art, when it's not bad at all! I mean, we've all seen worse! But what is bad is the story telling. The plot itself and the characters seem sort of interesting, but the story jumps from here to there way to much. It has so much potiental, but you can see where interest was slipping and Lost just wanted to finish it. In fact, the ending leaves you with a bad taste in your mouth. Kudious goes to Lost though for the creativeness of the names ^^. |

Reccomend for Download? - |
Yes, but do so at your own risk. It's definitely worth the few minutes it takes to download AND watch the entire thing. |

Meet Ariella, the guardian... person? of an island which has a serious demon problem. She is constantly searching for a solution to this problem, among all the spells, gnomes, fairies, Elders, strange new arrivals, flashback sequences and evil people bent on world domination. (Not that there's that much to dominate out there, mind you.) |

After 5 chapters of this story, I just want to ask: Are we there yet? Although original and quite interesting at first, the plot tends to drag awfully. I'm not sure what the focus of the story is, either: is it Ariella's family life or the demon plot? |

I now very much regret that when thinking up my rating system, I filed animations under "Fancy Stuff" along with bonus material. The reason is chapter 3 of this series. When I first saw the file size, I was quite sure Stephen had accidentally added an extra zero in the description. No such luck: The chapter really is over 4 Megabytes big, and it's quite obvious why: No less than four 800 x 600, full-color, Sailor Moon wallpapers in BMP format.
ACK! I reached for my trusty Stick of Doom to ward off this monstrocity but reminded myself in time that it was only a one-time offence and that the Kami had many good points. Seriously though, it would be quite fine with only one wallpaper. It would be even better if they were in JPG format (which messes up the picture a little bit but reduces file size greatly) or, in fact, if they were all on the author's website. You could cut out 200 x 112 portions and put them in the Author's Notes as a preview.
This is the second time I've seen bonus material which was bigger than the story itself. Any more and I'll need a separate icon for it. |
