The view out my hotel window, right off a postcard. An elaborate door with traditional ironwork. Rooftops in Cortona Belltower atop a house in Montepulciano.
A cat with an extremely good view down the alley. Francis Mayes' house, Bramasole, which I was thrilled to track down. An elaborate bellringer in Montepulciano. Me, writing.
Me and Eija, a summer resident of Cortona we spent an evening with, at her apartment. Hey look, the Medicis were here too. (Old well in the town square, Montepulciano.) Beautiful front stairs with geraniums. Two boys play ball against a steep staircase in Cortona. Stairs up and down lined main street at each crossroads.
Took this only because I liked the arch. Another beautiful doorfront. A beautiful fresco of some saint who was (apparently) eaten by a lion. Santa Maria Calcino, on the road up the hill to Cortona.
An unhappy lion. A lion on a post in Montepulciano's main square. The famous shrine at Bramasole. Fans and readers leave flowers here. St. Agnes, of Montepulciano, whose "incorrupt" body is inside.
St. Anthony. Check out the skull. Sid in Montepulciano. Street scene, Montepulciano. Santa Margherita, at the very top of the hill above Cortona, to which you laboriously "walk and pray" for the walk to be over.
