Their first child, Jessie Sarah born 1848, was left with her grandparents when the couple left London in 24 July 1852 on the Emily with their two younger daughters, Alice Mary born 18 Nov 1949 and Kate Elizabeth born July 1851. They disembarked at Port Phillip on 21 Oct 1852. Kate died on 17 Jan 1853 and Emily Jane was born on 22 Dec 1853.
The family arrived in Hobart, Tasmania on the schooner Eucalyptus on 1 Nov 1854. Edward found work in Hobart, and Elizabeth Lucy was born 14 Jan 1856. She was followed by five brothers, John Edward 28 Nov 1857, Francis William 22 Jan 1860, James Henry Prince 3 Feb 1863, William Drewery 12 Apr 1865 and Charles Philip 6 July 1867 who died of convulsions induced by toxins, aged 10 on 7 June 1877.
Edward was well educated, and wrote journals of his life.
Harriett died in Esperance on 27 May 1895 aged 71, the death Certificate shows her death was caused by Dropsy, and the Informant was her grandson, Walter Drysdale. She is buried in the Congregational Church graveyard in Dover. Edward died 18 Sept 1915 aged 91 years and is buried in the cemetry at Mirboo North, Victoria.

The Cemetry where Harriet was buried has now been redeveloped.
14 memorials were located in the Congregational Cemetery. The cemetery had been much larger and the park with the War Memorial had been developed on the site. Headstones from there had been transferred to the current cemetery opposite the local refuse tip. These were in a heap on the right hand boundary as you enter the cemetery. A 1950 list titled St Paul's Church of England is a combination of the headstones in the old Congregational cemetery but doesn't include the 25 removed headstones.
This information was extracted from an article published in the Tasmanian Ancestry c1983.

on Tue, 24 Oct 2006 My name is Brian Harris, youngest son of Percy Harris, who married Isabella May Austin, daughter of James Henry Prince Austin, who farmed at Mirboo North.
I am the last living of the three sons, brothers Keith and Alan having passed away in 1988 and 1990. I am now aged 70 at last birthday, April 4th.
My younger daughter Kim recently holidayed in Tassie and tried to find info on Jas Hy. but couldn't get any result. When they arrived home Kim got to work somehow and found this information on your website.
It is with great excitement that I have read the page and found nearly all your info correct.

*Harriett Ellen to my knowledge married a Mr Mackintosh and lived in Parkdale, Vic. When he died later married Abraham Freedman, affectionately known as Uncle Abe. Although he was Jewish he for quite some time acted as superintendent of a Presbyterian Sunday school !! He and Auntie Nell, as she liked to be known retired up at Porepunkah. Sadly I don't know the dates of their passing
My wife, Janice was interested in genealogy for quite some time but could not get very far back with the Harris or Austin families.
I have taken the liberty of printing your page for our own use and am most appreciative of what must have been a lot of hard work on your part.
Yours truly, Brian Harris
