Seven Arrows, by Hyemeyohsts Storm, is a wonderful book. In it Storm very masterfully presents basic spiritual teaching from the American plains Indian tradition. A portion of one of the reader reviews states the following. "A profound, gentle teaching. Like a wise grandfather you wish you had. Like life, the more you read it and come back to it, the more you see and learn. Try not to get hung up on the symbolism by literal interpretation. Try reading it like a child would read a story. Over time the wisdom and serenity will sink in after you work through the emotions, feelings and judgements it will evoke." The Road to Guadalupe: A Modern Pilgrimage to the Goddess of the Americas by Eryk Hanut, recounts a personal pilgrimage to the shrine of the Virgin in Mexico City and gives the author's insights into the many dimensions of this spiritual phenomenon. One editorial review has the following to say about the book,"Hanut interweaves the fantastic story of the Lady of Guadalupe with a piquant, deliciously iconoclastic account of his own pilgrimage to contemporary Mexico City. Wading through armies of rosary- and candle-sellers, nasty nuns and believers of every stripe to behold the image of Guadalupe that miraculously appeared on Diego's "tilma," or serape, Hanut captures the way this mysterious divine force overflows every container and impediment, from the Catholic church to the commercialization that grows up around her image. What makes Hanut's account special is his unsparing honesty and his refusal to gloss over inconvenient details like Mexican poverty or the sinuous brew of witchcraft and prayer that this goddess of the Americas evokes." All customer reviews praise the book. The average customer rating is five stars. Reincarnation: The Missing Link in Christianity, by Elizabeth Clare Prophet and Erin L. Prophet, presents evidence that the doctine of reincarnation was originally taught by Jesus but was later removed for political reasons by Rome, when they absorbed the Christian movement and established the Roman Catholic Church. The average customer rating is five stars. Reincarnation for the Christian (Quest Books), by Quincy Howe, is a small paperback of 112 pages. The average customer rating is four stars. One reviewer of the book gives this description of it,"This is a great book, that is easy to read and gives a good introduction to the teaching of reincarnatoin in Christianity. Such a topic is not easy to address, especially when we have to take into account that Origen had many levels of teachings. He kept reincarnation for those who had already understood the basic teachings of Christ, thus, some people, like one of the other reviews, might be confused when they come across seemingly contridictory writings in the works of the great Early Church Father, Origen." Autobiography of a Yogi, by Paramahansa Yogananda, recounts the unfoldment of his life and his spiritual mission. I have the book in my own library and I treasure it. If you have never had the opportunity to visit a real spiritual center or retreat, you may find Yogananda's description of the times that he shared with his own guru in his guru's retreat instructive. This is the paperback edition and it has 592 pages. A hardback edition is also available. The average customer rating is four and a half stars.
