Perhaps, of all the comfortable living
environment traits that one seeks in a
place to be called home,
a vibrant economy able to sustain desired lifestyle
would
be the most important. All
other characteristics would become affordable
when the local economy is able to provide the
basic necessities of life as well
as others needed by one to express
one's values, preferences and image. Since
the 1950s, Tuguegarao City has established itself as a center
of fashion and leisure
in the Cagayan Valley, adding
to the long list of attractions of
the city. Capitalizing on this, the
private sector of Tuguegarao City
continually ventures into higher-level services and
products, not yet otherwise available in the Cagayan
Valley Region.
On its part, the
Tuguegarao City Government continually creates
conditions to heighten the productivity and
competitiveness of Tuguegarao City.
Even livelihood projects are focused on activities that
create added-value products and services. No
livelihood endeavor is a dole-out. The beneficiaries have to provide
equity and loan repayment (interest-free).
To boost the
local economy, Tuguegarao City
focuses on Commercial
Development, Agricultural Modernization,
Investment Promotion (local and
www), Cooperative Development, Livelihood Projects,
Skills Trainings, Public Employment Service,
Physical Upgrading, Technology Transfer and Financial Assistance. Investment
Promotion involves production of
brochures and other promotional materials,
Pav-vurulun Festival (City Fiesta)
and Paskuhan (Christmas) Trade
Fairs, the operation and maintenance of
the City Training Center for
skills upgrading and souvenirs production and the establishment
of the Tuguegarao City Kabuhayan Center.
When people become aware
of existing mechanisms to improve their living
conditions, they begin to hope and
have visions of better lives. Thus, they are willing to
learn, to work and to help carry the burden
of building a better Tuguegarao
City. This is how development partners are
developed and how the development momentum of Tuguegarao City accelerates.
Cities are recognized
worldwide as engines of growth. Recognizing its
capabilities to favorably influence the growth and progress
of the areas contiguous to the city, Tuguegarao City is currently working
with the 6 municipalities of
the 3rd District of Cagayan - Peņablanca,
Iguig, Enrile, Solana, Tuao and Amulung to institutionalize
Metro PIESTTA as a viable working arrangement for mutual benefit and progress.
