Don’t Use These If You Have...

Aconite

Aconite contains one of the most powerful known poisons, even the smallest amount of the plant’s juice entering a break in the skin can be faithful.  Only to be used with expert assistance.

Bryony (Snake Grapes)

This herb is poisonous in large doses.

Cleavers

This is a powerful diuretic which would upset diabetics.  Not recommended for use by them.

Eucalyptus

Eucalyptus oil is said to increase heart action, so it is not recommended for use by those with heart trouble.

Feverfew

Feverfew induces menstruation so it is to be avoided by those who think they may be pregnant.

Foxglove

Foxglove is dangerous and should only be used under medical supervision.

Goat’s Rue

A poison if taken in excessive doses.  It also induces menstruation so it is to be avoided by those who think they may be pregnant.

Hawthorn

Not to be used by those with heart conditions unless under the care of a qualified herbalist.

Hellebore, Black

Hellebore should only be used under expert supervision.

Hemlock

A strong poison, only to be used under expert supervision.

Holly, Sea

A stimulant when taken internally, so not to be used by those with heart problems.

Hyssop

A stimulant when taken internally, so not to be used by those with heart problems.

Laurel (Bay)

Not to be used by pregnant women as the berries have been used in past times to procure abortion.

Mandrake

The root is poisonous and experiments involving its use should not be embarked upon without expert supervision.

Mint (Peppermint)

Those suffering from heart trouble should only take this as prescribed by a qualified herbalist.

Mistletoe

The white berries should never be used for any medicinal purpose as they are poisonous.

Motherwort

Not to be used by pregnant women or those with heart problems.

Myrrh

Not to be used by pregnant women.

Nightshade, Black

This plant is dangerous, use only with expert guidance.

Parsley

Parsley can case miscarriage if eaten in large amounts, so pregnant women should not use it.

Pennyroyal

This herb should not be taken during pregnancy.

Rue

Rue is poisonous if taken in excess, so great caution in its use is called for.

Sage

Not to be used by pregnant women.

Scullcap, Virginian

An overdose of this herb can cause symptoms similar to an epileptic fit.
